Fran Vazquez in 2011?

Post#1 » by shrink » Thu Sep 16, 2010 2:15 pm

A poster on the trade board suggested that MIN swap its late UTA 1st for the rights to Fran Vazquez, and with things so slow around here, I thought I'd bring it over for discussion.

As you can expect, he mentioned that perhaps Vazquez would come over with Rubio, increasing the chances that both Barca teammates would be in Wolves uniforms next season. I checked Fran's contract, and it does appear that he has an out next year.

However, just because two guys are Spanish doesn't mean that they're buddies. I have a hard time seeing the 27-year old Vazquez being best friends with the 19 year old Rubio. Moreover, Vazquez seems to have been pretty persistent about staying in Europe, after standing ORL up at the altar on draft night when they dropped the #11 pick on the guy.

Still, Vazquez is an excellent player, is familiar with Rubio, and may play a position we could use. He fits the "high upside / wasted draft pick" criteria that Kahn seems to love, and its doubtful we could get as talented a player with such a low pick (my guess? 25). However, the chance that he comes to the NBA is still hard to determine.

Your thoughts on Fran Vazquez?

From what I read on this board, it sounds like Rubio and Vasquez have great on court chemistry. I think Rubio being here would help the case for getting Vasquez here, but it seems like he has his personal reasons for wanting to stay in Europe. I wouldn't expect Vasquez to come to the NBA unless he specifically says he wants to.

If Vazquez were coming over the Magic could get a pretty good deal for him in trade. But they'd probably just sign him to be the PF they've been looking for for ages.

I think its safe to say that he is comfortable in Spain, where he is very highly paid, secure in his job, and being a good boy by obeying his domineering girlfriend and staying local.

I've always had a Fran Vazquez obsession. I've also proposed a a Ellington/Vazquez swap.

Why would Vazquez choose Minnesota over Orlando? It's not as if we have the Spanish connection because Kahn drafted Rubio. On top of that we have Beasley, Love, Tolliver, Pekovic, and Milicic. Think he would be content coming off the bench with 18 minutes? If not, who do you get rid of? Well, I guess if Pekovic is a bust, you have your answer.

let him build chemistry with Darko and Love and Beasley. If Vazquez can't bring himself to leave Spain for Orlando then what chance do we have? Though Orlando kinda sucks from what I hear...
