Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
No way in hell am I giving up Brad Jones for Lynch in a 1 for 1 deal, let alone adding in Pat Lee and a pick.

There's no way we are trading Brad Jones. I'm sure xTitan would be thrilled but I think he has a ton of potential and we have zero depth there.
I'd be willing to trade them some combo of Pat Lee, A.J Hawk, and a 4th round pick. Have them pick two of those three things or something.

I'm not even giving up 2 of those 3 for Lynch.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
Lee hasn't shown anything and while I'm in the Jones camp, he's not above replacement. We still have Zombo on the roster to take his place and Poppinga or Chillar could step in if needed. I think it's possible (likely?) they draft a long term fixture opposite God next April anyway.
Like I said in the other thread, I think Lynch could be a guy who flourishes in a new system, and I trust him to get yards more than I do Jackson. We'd be getting a starting runningback on the cheap for this season, possibly next. If he came to play and was motivated, now you have a young runner without a lot of mileage.
If the report is accurate, I'm at least encouraged that they're actually talking.

Drafting a replacement is one thing, but you would really trade our one of our starting OLBs 1 game into the season? I think that's crazy talk. I'd rather stick with Jackson and the rookies/PS players than trade away Brad Jones.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
I have no problem trading Lee, even say Lee and a 5th rounder for Lynch. But there is no chance in hell I'm involving Brad Jones in that trade.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
I don't think Jones is anything special, but he's probably our 2nd best pass rusher. On any other team, I'd deal him for Lynch for sure, but I think it would negatively impact THIS team. Really wish we were a little deeper at OLB, that would make this deal more doable.
But I agree on Lynch and this system, it is a perfect fit. I really hope we get this done.

One other thing to keep in mind, even if they are talking I see no way in hell this trade actually happens until AFTER Sunday, you don't trade players to a team right before you play them, it just doesn't happen in the NFL.

I think that's pretty obvious.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
Jones might be a tough pill to swallow, but the bottom line is this is a contending team this year, other teams know this, and I don't trust Jackson, Kuhn and PS guys to get it done. If you bring Lynch in I think he matches and likely exceeds Grant's level of production. That's pretty valuable.

One other idea I'd throw out there is this (and I've been saying it since we switched to a 3-4). Try Hawk at OLB. This would obviously be assuming we traded Jones.

Having a better pass rush and depth at OLB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Having Marshawn Lynch
It's not even close. IMO Marshawn Lynch is ridiculously overrate on this board.

He's really not being overrated. People have been saying he's a wash or slight upgrade over Grant, which is true.

This, the difference between upgrading from Jackson to Lynch is so minuscule compared to the downgrade from Brad Jones to anything else we have on the roster, not to mention how it would negatively impact our depth.
I do agree on trying Hawk at OLB and just letting him run wild at the QB.

+1000%
I actually like Lynch, but not that the expense of weakening our already thin depth at OLB. And to DB, you don't trust Jackson, Kuhn and co. but you are ok with extended playing time for Poppinga and Zombo? Because my view of that is exactly the opposite.

And that's worth our starting OLB when we have very little quality depth at that position and a young CB we spent a 2nd rounder on not to long ago?
We got Ryan Grant for a 6th rounder. Giving up a starter and a reserve at a position we are already weak at him for is just insane. That trade would be awful.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
I never said I'd trade Jones, just said people aren't overrating Lynch. That is hyperbole.
What we got Grant for really isn't relevant because the chances of making a similar type move is slim to none.
But we do need an ugrade over Jackson. Not only on talent, but because the chances of him lasting the full season as a lead back are slim.
Doesn't mean we have to trade Jones. But I'd make this deal happen if at all possible.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
Assuming this report is true, which is a big assumption, this is just a starting point. There is no way TT gives up Jones and Lee for Lynch. TT will try to negotiate down the asking price and if he's successful we'll get Lynch for a much more reasonable price, otherwise I'm sure TT is confident in his scouting ability and we'll roll with Jackson/Kuhn/Nance. The next couple of week should be interesting.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
I don't understand how the Bills are in any position to low ball. They're terrible. And I don't even understand why they'd want Brad Jones in the first place. He'd be waaaayyy less effective in a 4-3 IMO. If I'm them I'd happily take AJ and put him at weakside OLB.

Re: Hawk Puts House Up For Sale
From Peter King's weekly prediction column, summed it up pretty good:
Peter King wrote:Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers
I like Ryan Grant as much as the next guy, but he's a great example of the interchangeability of running backs in the NFL right now. Maybe the Packers will go out and get a Marshawn Lynch -- I don't know -- but they probably won't need him to get to where they're going.
