OT: Basketball. How much do you Love the Game?

Post#1 » by DRK » Mon Sep 20, 2010 9:00 am

I personally could not live without basketball. Every time I'm at home with nothing to do, I'm either outside shooting, playing 2K10, or on RealGM forums. Basketball is pretty much my life. Whenever there is an oppotunity to play a pick up game, I play it.

What about you guys?

I enjoy all sports, i couldn't say which one i love more. But as for basketball its the only one that i play almost every other day except during winter. I have also had NBA League Pass for as long as i could remember.

I started basketball pretty late. Think I was around 14 or 15 when I started playing. Before basketball I played soccer. But basketball is a big part of my life, it's a shame I can't play as often as I used to.

I was always a good/lucky shooter, but my brother really got me into it. What I love about it is, I only need a ball and a hoop, and I am entertained for hours. If there is no one to play, I just work on my shot. If you watch Nash's youtube video where it shows his twenty minute workout, it is very similar to what I have been doing for years, but I like how he continues to run the whole time. Chasing after missed shots has done wonders for me following my shot. We used to have a Palo Verde tree that had thorns, so you had to make sure the ball never went into it.

Now a days, I play at the gym, and I try to get into games, so I can keep in shape. It is getting tougher the older I get though. My body doesn't do exactly what I want, and because I still do all the hustle plays, I tend to get injured faster. But I do a much better job stretching out than I did as a kid.

To answer the question: Love the sport! My favorite by far, to watch or play.

I started playing when I was 6 at my local club. Then I moved to the city when I was 16 and stopped playing. I played a little about two summers ago and I definitely didn't forget how to play, but my handles were kind of lame. Shooting was probably better.

I kind of want to get back on it but it's not easy to find people to play with over here.

Enjoy the game, use to go out and work on my midrange jumper everyday. Sadly, I can only do that on the weekend now.

I started playing it because it was mandatory for us to choose between soccer and basketball for physical education in high school. Since I hated playing soccer so much, I ended up playing basketball. One of my best friends bonded with me when we started playing basketball in what the Americans call the 7th grade (he's now kind of my nemesis whenever we play on opposing teams). As a matter of fact, basketball allowed me to make friends. Now most of my crew (before we all split up for study in overseas) are kinda basketball junkies.
I was really bad at making shots, and doesn't have a good feeling for my offensive game, so I ended up playing defense. I am relatively tall and big (ie fat) in the group so I play C/PF and do all the dirty work. Given that most people only focus on their offense, whereas I would prefer to focus on defense and rebounds, I actually gained some respect. People would rather team up with me because they hated playing against me. One of my pals went as far as saying I was taking the fun out of playing basketball, to which I replied," The fun of playing basketball is taking away the fun of playing basketball from your opponents."
I get so easily worked up and I would like to intimidate my opponents by giving their a fiery stare. Somehow I will be angered whenever someone scores right in front of me.
I love guarding low post guys. Those are my favorite. I eat them for breakfast, lunch and supper, all day every day. They are guaranteed to not score when they're up against me.

Basketball plays a huge part in my life. I can't live without it. Hell, I don't even know if I would have had that amount of friends had I not play basketball. Basically, it changed my personality.

I think sport has played a big part of my life in general. I used to play for a cricket club, and captained a soccer team a few years ago. I never play basketball for a club, but I've played for my high school a couple of times in tournaments.

Basketball made me want to wokr harder. My dream is to get a college degree in the US, and maybe playing in the Euroleague or even NBA. Long shot, but hey? Why not? :D

I like playing a bit of everywhere, a bit like Boris Diaw or Hedo. I love passing, and driving to the lane. I practise shots almost every day until it gets dark. I cant dunk yet, but I like to do some hook shots when Im in the post, with either my left or right.

Basketball is one of my few passions. If the offseason was in the winter I would probably go insane. I've been playing since I was about 6 and I still play all the time. I played for my high school team a couple years back, where I was the flashy dunker type, but was a pretty weak defender. Despite that I still yell at the tv when I see someone on the Suns play bad D.

I hate basketball, I only joined this site as an ironic way to amuse myself.

Eh. Year 10. My verticle is crap though. I'm about 6, and about a few cm's off touching rim.

I like train every day, like I go for a 15km bike ride a day after school, but I cant build up my vert. My stamina is fine, but yeah. Sigh. Frustrating.

Best shooter in Australia? Damn. You might make it to the AIS!

yeh hopefully, my friend from my school already trains with them twice a week. hes at an australia camp atm which is a development thing for the 2013 world championships. anyway well see how it goes.

I never have done weights or anything but i used to do alot of riding, not so much anymore. the best advice i can give outside of doing a vertical program which ive heard are really hard is to just jump all the time. for example put your ring down to 9 ft or whatever ang just soend ages trying to dunk on it.

I tried lowering my ring down today. Took me about half an hour, because my ring is pretty dodgey. by the time I finished lowering it, I couldn't be stuffed dunking on it for too long.

How tall are you?
