Trade Machine: Melo Deal In February/3 Teams?

Post#1 » by BurningHeart » Tue Sep 21, 2010 8:48 am

I believe this is my first trade proposal shared on these boards, mainly because I think the practice is generally worthless, but I like this one so I thought I'd share.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=2afpau2

Phoenix Out: Jason Richardson
Phoenix In: Troy Murphy, Aaron Afflalo

Denver Out: Carmelo Anthony, Aaron Afflalo
Denver In: Derrick Favors, Terrance Williams, Jason Richardson.... (maybe picks too?)

NJ Out: Troy Murphy, Terrance Williams, Derrick Favors
NJ In: Carmelo Anthony

NJ has to offer a lot if they're gonna get a player of Carmelo's caliber, that's why I think they have to include Favors, and maybe even more. Trading Troy and Favors would leave them thin up front though, so I don't know.

Getting Afflalo and Murphy would be killer for the Suns. Fills our rebounding hole and Afflalo is Raja-lite. By then, we'll know if we're "in the hunt" and what our holes are so we could use J-rich's contract to our advantage.

Denver gets rid of Carmelo but gets a good chunk of youth to build on.

It's almost 2, so forgive me if any of this doesn't make sense lol

Good trade. But I think there will be many more Denver players being traded out before Afflalo is. He's one of their only young prospects.

I don't think NJ will offer Favors. I know Melo is worth more than Murphy and Williams but the Nets have cap space next season to sign Melo outright if they wanted to so I don't see them giving up more assets than they need to.

The problem I see is that although we get someone to help up front with rebounding, we do mess up the front court rotation. We would want to start Murphy? If so, do we move Hedo to SF? Then we move Dudley to SG, Hill off the bench? So the idea is good, but it creates some other issues.

I would start Afflalo, honestly.

Nash/Dragic
Afflalo/Childress
Hill/Turkoglu/Dudley/Clark
Murphy/Frye/Warrick/Lawal
Lopez/Jones

....then, when we sub, we pound the mismatches. Dragic as a 1-2, Turkoglu as a 1-4, Dudley as a 2-3, Childress as a 2-3, Hill as a 1-4....it'd be ridiculous.

I've just always loved Murphy's rebounding. Afflalo plays smart, and would really help man D against Kobe and the like.

I'd kill for something like this.

Hmm, ok I see what you're thinking about there. I thought one of Turkoglu or Murphy would be stuck on the bench. I like the idea of throwing mismatches at other teams, especially since Gentry does like moving through rotations.

How about interior D though?

Dever doeesn't have much leverage i doubt they'd decline that deal picks or not. Melo put them in a tought spot they're probably getting screwed at the deadline. I would do it aas a Suns fan because our rebounding would be legit and Murphy is perfect for the ''system''.

I don't care much about the interior D if we're getting boards and closing out defensive possessions. We'll have more than enough perimeter D and versatlity to force teams into taking bad shots. The key is eating up those misses. Murphy would do that for sure, I'd think.

All moot if this whole NJ thing doesnt work out as the "NBA Exec" says he won't resign there.

I definitely think we need to be in as a third wheel on any deal though.

No chance in hell I think.

They'll have to part ways with Bynum and Odom, and there goes their length advantage.

Carmelo's news have been lame.

"carmelo to be traded"

next day: "carmelo will stay to test free agency"

next day "carmelo definitely not staying in denver"

and so on ...

mmm it's getting a little annoying. It seems like Denver finally thinks ok, we should trade him, and then backs out as the word spreads, and this keeps repeating.
