Random trade idea with Dallas.
Indiana trades: Dahntay Jones and Solomon Jones
Dallas trades: DeShawn Stevenson and a 2nd Rounder.
Just exploring ideas for Indy to clear up a roster spot. It's not groundbreakingly exciting, but I think it might have merit.
DeShawn would be waived by the Pacers, there's really not much good in him hanging around.
Why for Indiana?
Simply to clear up a roster spot for unsigned draftee Magnum Rolle. There's still enough wings to fill the rotation and Solomon isn't much more than a 3rd string kind of guy so his loss isn't so major. Pacers also clear a possible $2.5m in 2011/12 salary.
Why for Dallas?
Dahntay would bring a more complete game than DeShawn's at this point. His defense could help within the rotation. And with the departure of Tim Thomas, perhaps Solomon could provide some form of relief.

Id do it! Dallas has traded with us before, maybe they'd do it again! We could sign Rolle and it even give us an extra roster spot

I'm not a fan of the idea of giving up Dahntay just to free up a roster spot. I know we need to free one up to sign Magnum but I feel like this trade is too much.

Not bad. Definitely would be on board with Indy waiving Stevenson (doesn't he have some character issues of his own?) I'd prefer to see Rush moved because I do think Dahntay can get that defensive mentality back and since they have I think similar contracts.

Re: Random trade idea with Dallas.
I like the original deal, but I'm not sure it's likely to expect Dallas to give up a 2nd in it as well. Indy clear's the roster spots and saves around $3 million additional next year. That's the benefit for us. Dallas gets two guys they could use at positions of use while getting rid of a bit of a headache in Stevenson.
We'd likely let Stevenson try it out in training camp, but possibly waive him to bring in a training camp invite guy we like.

Stevenson is an ND guy...
And then we'll continue the Pacers tradition of having dudes with the same last name (even if they're spelled differently).
I straight up like Dahntay better than Stevenson. I think he'll be immensely useful for the next coach.

Re: Random trade idea with Dallas.
I don't like the trade, and I don't think Bird or Morway would do this trade, either.
Dahntay Jones is a qulified role player with very reasonable contract. He didn't play much time last season simply he cannot shot the 3 under JOB's system. Other than his shooting range, he runs the floor well. He's also a very good defender. If we trade him away, I think we should get more back than just a 2nd rounder.
As for Stevenson, he's nothing but an expiring contract, which the Pacers already have a lot. It's bad enough trading Dahntay for him and 2nd rounder, let along sending Solo as well.

Can the 2nd, it's not a necessity. I just figured Dahntay might hold some decent value.

I'm with you, but considering we've drafted a wing 10th overall and O'Brien's love of Dunleavy, I figure it might be worth sacrificing him and some future savings to give Magnum a go. Call me crazy.

Honestly, I think Dallas might the team who is a little upset. Even a singular 2nd Rounder might be asking too much.

Re: Random trade idea with Dallas.
Mike Wells of indystar.com think that since Hansbrough and Foster's health are uncertain right now and McBob is not ready to start, the Pacers should get another starting PF and a backup center.
I think the backup center would be settle after we sign Rolle. And if Bird and Morway would do what Mike Wells just asked for, get a starting PF, then Dahntay Jones will be an important piece to do the deal.
After GSW signing Louis Amundson over Pacers and Hornets, I think we can assume that Bird are looking for better choice. But remember that the Pacers wouldn't take long, ugly contract, that turns down for Okafor or Elton Brand. So that maybe narrow the list down to three players:
1. Kenyon Martin, DEN
Martin's overpaid, without doubt, but his contract is expiring. Other than that, he's a good defender, which would help Hibbert's slow feet. He's also on the block now. It won't cost much to trade him.
2. Antawn Jamison, CLE
The Cavs may want give more time for Hickson to play, which may have the chance to trade Jamison. Jamison's contract is 28 million over 2 seasons. A little big but not that ugly. He can provide similar numbers as Troy Murphy did, double-double and some 3-pionters. He's more athelete than Murphy, and have some playoffs experience. That should help the Paces back into contenders.
3. Boris Diaw, CHA
Diaw is a smart player who is able play both forward or center. The Bobcats just sign Tyrus Thomas extention. That may cause Diaw on the block. Diaw's contract is 18 million over 2 seasons. He also have pretty much playoffs experience.
As you can see, we could conbine some expring contracts, like Ford, Dunleavy, Solo or Foster, with some valueable pieces, like Dahntay Jones, Brandon Rush, Lance Stephenson, or even future draft pick, it's possible for the Paces to make two(or more) for one trade to get a starting PF and leave the roster a spot for Rolle.
So please don't dump Dantay away like this way. I think he's more valueable than you think.

I hate to say it, but the Pacers still have the unresolved Lance Stephenson situation on their hands. Could be that they'll hold off on a trade like this proposal until they know they aren't going to be forced to cut Stephenson.

Hmm? Deshawn didn't go to college anywhere, let alone Notre Dame.

I'm sorry, but $28 million over 2 seasons isn't ugly to you? For a guy that isn't mobile enough to play SF anymore, and has never been a real PF? For a guy who's skills have already quickly declined? That's terrible to me. He'd be the highest paid Pacer since JO suited up for us.

If the Pacers are willing to take Posey's contract, I don't think Jamison's contract is that ugly, especially he is able to contribute 18pts, 8rebs, 1stl and .344 beyond the arc per game last season.
Jamison may not be a typical PF, but don't forget one guy who used to play really well under JOB's system, Antoine Walker. Both of them are between 3 and 4. If Walker could do it, why can't Jamison?
In fact, I'd prefer to start McBob, because the Pacers would clear up much salary space next summer and may be able to go after Al Horford, or Zach Randolph in the free agent. 2005 2nd rounder, Erazem Lorbek are also able to come then, I know that.
What I did assume is that Bird and Morway are urging to get the Pacers back into playoffs, what kind of qualified starting PF they may look for.

Re: Random trade idea with Dallas.
I don't mind Jamison as a player and seems like a good dude. But let's not forget that he'll be almost 35 by the end of next season and under a guaranteed contract through 2011-2012. Adding an expensive and aging (although still quality) PF doesn't quite fit with the core of Granger/Hibbert/Collison/George, the oldest of whom (Granger) is 28 at the end of this season. And since Indy won't quite be a title contender by the end of 2012, the win-now-and-go-with Jamison idea doesn't fit to me. I would LOVE to see them make a run at a PF like Al Horford, Carl Landry, or Jason Thompson next summer. Or if they don't land any of those, the summer of 2012 class has a quality PF and a Team USA teammate of Granger's - Kevin Love.

Getting Collison was a big part of it.
