Re: Explain the Kobe hatred
kobe is simply hated because he had a rape trial in which he was probably guilty of, yet managed to not get himself in trouble, all the while maintaining his absurdly gorgeous wife along with his 2 kids, and on top of all that winning some rings, and trying to be a goody-goody in front of the camera.
this is what the HATERS look at.
winning 5 rings, an mvp, and staying loyal to the lakers franchise, all the while entertaining me while he simply plays HANDS DOWN the best basketball since michael jordan for my favorite team, and on top of that i can enjoy watching him with a couple of drinks and friends.
this is the way I, MYSELF, look at him.

Re: Explain the Kobe hatred
Well, I've asked myself this question countless times. Mostly when faced with the vitriol against Kobe by a casual basketball fan. I can understand Kobe hate by hardcore Boston fans (for obvious reasons), Spurs, Suns, Kings and Nuggets fans (for getting pounded year after year), by 76ers fans (Kobe won the championship against his "hometown," then also won All-Star MVP in Philly).
What I find bizarre is how someone who occasionally watches basketball, who kinda follows a team, but without the die-hard fanaticism of many on this Lakers board, how they HATE Kobe.
So I asked them. Again and again, because honestly, I was really dumbfounded. Because if you look at the past league MVPs, you're bound to say to yourself, "what the f#$k? Really? Those guys won MVP over Kobe in those years?" Even sportswriters are not immune to it.
People don't hate Kobe just because he is the star on an opposing team, or even the star of a championship team. They don't hate Kobe just because of the rape accusations (although that did singlehandedly wipe out any non-LA female fans he might have had, despite the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing, and despite the multiple-semen-in-the-underwear-thing). People go OUT OF THEIR WAY to ACTIVELY hate Kobe.
Why?
The fact is, Kobe himself is partly to blame. If you watch Kobe closely, he has little mannerisms that we Lakers fans gloss over.
- his near constant smirk. (this in itself will drive many Kobe haters NUTS. I've witnessed it. And laughed my head off)
- his genuine smile: sometimes looks like a smirk anyway.
- the way he slaps his hands in the refs face and yells at them for being idiots when he doesn't get a call. (although, most of the time, he's right. I personally get infuriated the way he gets hacked, and when Westbrook or Durant get a touch, whistles blow left and right, but the way OKC is basically being groomed by the NBA and refs is another story)
- occasional childish behavior (celebrating by juggling his nuts, etc)
- and ...
THE BIGGEST REASON PEOPLE HATE KOBE .... (even if they are not conscious of it) ....
They still love Jordan. They love Jordan so much, that when they see someone emulating MJ in so many ways, it's nearly blasphemy. They hate Kobe the way a Christian would hate a nut from Texas claiming to be Jesus Christ. It's easier to embrace Grant Hill (remember when he was hailed as Jordan's heir?) or Lebron or Durant. None of these guys will make you think of Jordan, or make you think they are trying to take away Jordan's crown. But Kobe, that MFer has so many similar moves, the same fadeaway (even had the gall to pull that same fadeaway ON Jordan), the same manner of answering interview questions (but with that extra smirk), the rising number of championship rings, that people feel THREATENED.
But you know, the times are a-changing. Maybe it's because Lebron is being revealed as an A-hole. (God, it took THIS long for everyone to realize this pretentious clown was calling himself "The King" and NOW they're offended by it? After this long in the league? WTF) Maybe it's because the memories of Jordan are slowly fading away. Maybe it's because Jordan is coming back out into the open, as an out-of-shape bloated executive. (how shocking does he look?) Maybe it's because Kobe is slowly cutting down the childish mannerisms. Maybe the exhaustive winning is finally wearing down the barriers.
People are finally coming around. I celebrated when we won this championship, sure. But like many others in Lakers-land, it's not enough. When he gets 7, then I'll really scream my head off with my brothers, and I'll be able to sit back, and smile.

The media has invested a lot of time and effort steering public opinion of Kobe. And like sheep, people blindly believe whatever some **** talking-head tells them on ESPN.

Re: Explain the Kobe hatred
Because he doesn't give a F about what people think about him , and he's not like these new stars smiling and joking in the playoffs Kobe is always focused, I remember when we faced Orlando and in game 1 Dwight was smiling and trying to joke with Kobe but Kobe wasn't even smiling but after we smashed them 4-1 Kobe was all smiles

Re: Explain the Kobe hatred
Hating Kobe helps them to boost the profile of their own favorite players. Mostly LBJ fans. If you say Kobe sucks, it makes it seem like (theoretically) LBJ is better. (Or Wade, or whoever)

I share your sentiment, I'm not a Kobe fan either but being a Laker fan I still respect his game and appreciate all he has done for the team minus that summer when the trade demand happened, sorry regardless of management lying to him or not I didn't like how he went about it. But as far as non-laker fan hating on him cause he's winning and he's still at the top of his game even at his age.

well i am a kobe fan,i mean how could you not be? if you love the sport of basketball you have to appreciate the best player in the world. it has been said many times but i'll just add my two cents. it's just in people nature to dislike great things. i have never in my life seen people try to bring down the guy driving the pinto. kobe is arrogant but in a way so is every great player. i say phukk the haters,at the end of the day who cares. this guy named kobe has helped our franchise win 5 titles and no other star in todays modern game can say that to my knowledge.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

Yeah. If anyone ever tells you they hate kobe because he's a rapist, ask them to name 2 people who have actually been convicted of rape that they hate, and they won't even be able to name one. They don't actually care about rape issues, and cowardly use that to hate on someone they would have hated anyway. It's pretty sick if you ask me.
