Well you're right, especially since kids who are extremely athletic in high school who never really develop an all around game because they are ablet o dominate just using their athletic ability and then they go off to college and even the NBA and they turn into a "what could've been" player.. but it's also the most exciting part of the game and the game wouldn't be what it is without dunking..

What, are you trying to make me feel crappy?
Good for him.
I once played against a 5'7" guy in his late 40s that was getting alley oops tossed his way.
Are we pointing out physical specimens now?

the all star dunk contest was boring as bat guano this year. total snooze fest. the previous years have been pretty good though. iguodala did some good stuff, as well as dwight, nate, amare (and nash) and josh smith. the old days were good too, even looking back on them now. they need to keep the bigger name players in it to keep people watching. no one wants to watch rookies (unless they are actually entertaining) just like no one wants to watch no-name and1 youtube stars.

so basically you don't watch the dunk contest for the dunking, you watch because you're wowed by who the dunker is.

some of us actually want to see good dunking, since it IS called the Dunk Contest

The NBA should build it up like the Madden bus show, where each team gets an amateur representative, that competes for a chance to show their dunking wares in front of millions of on-lookers during all-star weekend. We can vote on them based on footage released.. The hype would be out of control for the event.

Ziani would lose because he dunks with a women's ball. Air Up There won last year, and he'll win this year too. Who is Benny Dobbs, I've never heard of him?

In my experience the only ones who get upset about dunking are jealous that they are unable to do so. They're also old.

As far as the original dunker goes the most impressive thing about him is his body control. It's so quick and effortless.

+1. It's worth the same as a layup. We should have a layup contest during All-Star weekend as well.

Just so you guys can piss and moan about how reverse layups "aren't that impressive" and "are still worth the same as a regular layup"? No thanks.

Making a reverse layup is harder than dunking a basketball.

But.
I can make reverse layups?

Or is that a dig at the fundamentals of current NBA players?

You can probably make one if you try 100 times. You can't make the other.

oh of course i want to see good dunking. i want a good show. but when its by big name stars its so much better than joe nobody from the playground with some ridiculous nick name.

the nba stars who go in the dc should employ some of these guys as dunk coaches so they dont bore everyone to death like this year.
