That's not it. I can't palm the ball, and going with two hands just doesn't get me there.

I was 5'9 and could dunk but thats in top shape ballin and wokring out everyday. Now id be happy if I could jsut touch the rim I wonder how I got back then.

Thse guys are nice to watch but cant compare with NBA player. Who know what they have in their bodies. Im not saying they use steroids or anything but you just dont know. Ive seen some amazing people do some amazing things on the court and alot of times they were either drunk, high, mixing or something else, doesnt take away from how entertaining it was but if they had to meet NBA standards they might not dbe able to duplicate the effort.

DUnking is fun to watch but cant compare to NBA. If all a guy could do was be an amazing dunker but had no shot, handles, conditioning, basketball IQ, cant pass or catch he wouldnt even be in the NBA. Ask Gerald Green.

Yeah, it's not quite as difficult as you may think.

Gerald Green has made about 5 million playing basketball; I have no idea what you do for a living, but I'm thinking Gerald is pretty happy with how things have turned out for him.

Generally speaking, I agree with your post, of course these guys are better at dunking - it's all they practice for. If you play in the NBA, you're not going to spend 6 hours a day working on your dunks. You can't.

As for palming the ball, not really necessary anyway.

I could dunk a volleyball. I could jump high enough to bruise up my wrists on the rim. I just, couldn't dunk a basketball.

(probably because my palms were too sweaty from all this fat I carry)

Heh I could dunk in highschool and I was more like a football player (5'10, 280, fatty)

I'm not really impressed by dunks anymore unless they're going through traffic and dunk on someone.

Your lower body strength was probably at its height when you were training for football. All those squats and leg presses got you up.

I meant I was more built like one than a basketball player. Never did play football, but I probably should have. :P

I bet there are quite a few in the NBA right now that can dunk just like that.

You don't see those in the game because they're not practical. If you handed every player in the NBA (superstars to lowly bench reserves) a camera I bet quite a few could come back with footage of dunks like that.

I'm sure if some of them practiced they're athletic enough and can jump high enough to do the dunks, but too bad they don't.. it takes a lot of practice to get some of these dunks and most NBA players don't have the time to do it

That's incorrect.
I've seen heavy 6'3 guys that can dunk and skinny 6'3 guys that can't dunk.
The % of fast twitch muscle fibers attribute alot to jumping high. Thats why you see guys like Spud Webb or Nate Robinson dunking and guys like Andre Miller who probablly have a harder time dunking.
Dexter training can turn slow twitch into fast twitch by doing lower reps at a high intensity but you want to do high reps as well for endurance. The problem is people typically ignore fast twitch muscles they just lift a bunch of weight to strengthen their calves or thighs, which is good but those fast twitch muscles are the ones that would help with dunking and everything else related to playing basketball....or any sport for that matter.

You can probably make one if you try 100 times. You can't make the other.

I'm 6 feet, white, and can dunk. Making a reverse layup takes skill and coordination. Dunking just takes leaping ability.

You don't think there is coordination involved in these dunks?
