I would be very surprised if that move happened.

He is riding the pine right now because Gaston likes veterans. Once Cito is gone, things (hopefully) will start to make sense again.

Things make sense. Buck probably has a family, kids, and is playing for probably the biggest contract he's going to get given his age and the decent numbers he's putting up. This is a chance for Buck to secure the future for him and his family and playing him is a show of respect and consideration for the contribution he's made to the organization in the short time he's been here.

From this perspective, it makes little sense to bench the guy iin favour of a rookie who has his whole future ahead of him.

(This is an aspect of Cito that many don't understand...and why he has 2 world series rings).

This, man. An organization's karma means a lot.

This is the cold world of professional sports. A manager should realize there are bigger things at stake here than Buck reaching an arbitrary plateau and (possibly) garnering a better contract.

From this perspective, it makes little sense to bench the guy iin favour of a rookie who has his whole future ahead of him.

If this is his perspective, that's fine. That's just Cito's way of doing things. But he should have a GM willing to overrule him. Unfortunately that's not happening here, and it might end up hurting Arencibia's development going forward.

Cito has 2 WS rings because he managed the best team in baseball for two years. He certainly didn't have to deal with situations like this during those years.
