Diaw To Jazz, DJ To Nets & Harris To Bobcats In Melo 4 Way?

Post#1 » by hotrod » Fri Sep 24, 2010 5:05 pm

STEIN_LINE_HQ Just filed to ESPN.com: Nuggets in "serious" discussions on four-way trade w/New Jersey, Utah and Charlotte that would make Melo a Net

would be (among other moving parts, I'd wager) Diaw headed to Utah and Devin Harris coming to Charlotte. Since it sounds so good I'll assume it's not happening and we're about 2 days away from another 30 page thread of disappointment.

STEIN_LINE_HQ Proposed deal, according to sources, would bring Derrick Favors, Andrei Kirilenko and multiple first-rounders to DEN for Melo. Link on way

STEIN_LINE_HQ Other contracts would surely be added to make such a deal work but current proposal also would send Devin Harris to CHA and Diaw to UTAH

IDK ... I'm not a huge Devin Harris fan, but this is exactly the sort of trade that Charlotte needs.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I would love this deal if it happens. But that means we have no need for a couple of Guards on the team right now. Maybe someone else is going with Boris, or yet another trade in the works.

IF this deal goes down we will have to get a back up for Tyrus so you would have to think that DJ or Hendo might be on the way out?

Any ways, I guess we can worry about that if and when this trade goes down.

I guess we were due some good news. Devin Harris is a significant upgrade from Diaw even if it does unbalance the roster a bit.

Agree with not being crazy about Devin Harris. But he's better than any of the PG's we have on the roster and will give us more meaningful production for the $9mil in salary than Diaw would have.

This trade, if it goes through makes sense but its not going propel us into the second round of the playoffs or anything.

In a way, they're kind of making things more difficult on themselves. Charlotte was going to be in the lower tier of post season contenders competing with teams like NY, Cleveland, Indiana for the final two playoff spots. Now, with NJ propelled into the post season with the addition of Melo, Charlotte will be competing with those other three teams for the 8th spot (i.e. the honor of getting swept by Miami or Orlando).

The only real head scratcher of this deal is what NJ plans to do at PG after dealing Harris. They'll have a strong playoff caliber roster with Twill/Melo/Murphy/Lopez but they'd be left with starting Farmar at the PG.

Wonder if DJ or maybe even Livingston would be going there as a part of the deal?

That's a damn fine return on our Diaw investment if we can get Devin Harris.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=3ykmgkc

That works cap wise. We make out like bandits imo. That 12m expiring looks really nice.

CHA: Harris | Jax | Crash | Murphy | Nazr
NJ: Augustin/Farmar | Williams | Melo | Outlaw/Humphries | Lopez
DEN: Billups | Affalo/Hendo | Kirilenko | Martin/Favors | Nene
UTAH: Williams | Bell/Smith/Miles | Miles/Hayward | Diaw/Millsap | Jefferson

The only problem with any New Jersey trade is that they have a surplus of SF's. They just gave Outlaw 7m a few months ago, and if they get Carmelo, you can only assume that he'll be dealt later in the year.

Personally I would rather Felts at 2 years and 14 mil than Harris at 3 years and 27 mil.

Livingston can't because he was just signed, DJ can. We will lose more than Diaw to make the deal work cap wise (tried out the reported deal in TM, did not work).

Harris is an upgrade over DJ. Not a big Harris fan though. Oh well, hopefully LB can work his magic on him because it didn't work well at all with DJ last season.

A little info about Harris...

Al_Iannazzone Harris has bulked up. About 15 lbs heavier in hopes to stay healthy. expects to play more than 70 games.

The only problem with that is that you have Andrei going to New Jersey when the report says Denver.

Edit: :P

Yea, his 17.8m deal creates cap issues in itself. Should be interesting if this gets pulled off.

STEIN_LINE_HQ If the deal materializes to land Melo in Jersey, surely other small contracts will be added to make the salary-cap math work. However ...

STEIN_LINE_HQ One source close to talks stressed to ESPN.com that Nets will only do deal if Melo signs extension like KG did in trade from Sota to Boston
