Re: Melo to Nets???
I know how you feel, R_8. I would feel much better about trading for Melo toward the end of the year, for a few different reasons.
For one, Melo won't cost as much then as rumors say we're willing to pay now (Devin/Favors/GSW1st). The other teams in serious contention for Anthony's services all offer less desirable packages than us. We must stop bidding against ourselves! Denver may try to pressure us, but they know that even without Favors, we have the best offer on the table. Time is on our side, and as good as Melo is, he isn't going to dramatically change the outcome of the season by coming to us now as opposed to Christmastime.
Two, we could send Outlaw out in the trade after December 15th. The last thing we need is a $7mil/year long-term backup to our franchise player, with a strikingly similar skill set. I think TrOut will break out in a big way and be our 3rd option through the first two months of the season. As Avery stated yesterday, he has some of the best "clutch" stats in the league, and could be our closer. In a consistent starting role, Travis can give us 15/6/2/1/1 on good %'s, and the Nuggets would be intrigued with him performing at that level. If we make him a backup now, he may never be viewed as worth his contract, and we'll either have to live an overpriced backup, or trade him for less than he could be worth.
Three, I have to see Favors in a Nets uniform. I think that the Nets FO owes it to the fanbase not to trade him, AT LEAST until we see how he and Brook coexist. He may or may not be ready to contribute significantly right away, but even if he looks sushi raw, Denver will still want him. By December, we should have at least a rough idea of whether or not our young bigman duo is something special in the making, or fundamentally incongruous.
Harris, Outlaw and the GSW 1st will be the key components of our outgoing assets if we trade for Melo in the middle of the season, and we may get something useful back in the process (DJ Augustin, for example). That means we hold onto our two talented bigmen, and instead of either of them, move an asset that will turn negative if Melo is in front of him on the depth chart. I think that is a much better path for us, and if it costs us another chance at a superstar, fine. Our players and picks will be special enough to overcome this.

Reliable source: Carmelo has approved the deal to the Nets.
The deal could go down as early as tomorrow.

If that's true...
Pull Harris or Favors out and do a two-team deal! We know Melo will sign an extension! We'll still have the best offer on the table!

Re: Melo to Nets???
According to multiple sources with knowledge of a proposed four-team blockbuster, the Nets are negotiating a deal that would bring them Carmelo Anthony from Denver in exchange for Devin Harris, first-round pick Derrick Favors plus draft picks.
There are some small details that could derail the deal, but Anthony has already signed off on the deal, according to an NBA source, and it could happen as early as Saturday. Anthony's approval was pivotal in the deal because the Nets wouldn't have agreed to it for a one-year rental.
The proposed deal - which would also involve the Jazz and Bobcats - would have Favors going back to Denver, along with Utah's Andrei Kirilenko and multiple draft picks from the Nets and Warriors (the Nets hold Golden State's first-round pick in 2012).
Harris would be sent to Charlotte, while Boris Diaw would be shipped from Charlotte to Utah. Other role players are being discussed as part of the complex trade.
According to a source, the Nuggets will make a final effort this weekend to convince Anthony to return after his contract expires next summer. But after Anthony refused to sign a three-year extension that's been on the table since June - and after he turned down an opportunity this month to express any loyalty to the Nuggets in an interview with the News - it's unlikely the three-time All-Star will change his mind.
Anthony has approved the deal, according to an NBA source, which is important because it's contingent on him signing an extension with the Nets.

Re: Melo to Nets???
Wow Im actually surprised to see him accept so quickly. Very interested to see how this all plays out.
It seems quite simply that either Harris or Murphy is going with Favors and the GSW pick. Ok. Now it's all about what else is coming back.
Id prefer to ship out Murphy. Play match-ups with Outlaw, Melo, James, and Joe Smith at SF/PF. See what we have in TWill and Morrow. Basically take stock on the situation and see what we need before adding the 4th/5th star to the core of Lopez/Melo/Harris.
Muprhy has value as expiring, Harris has value as a potential all star.

Nets and Bobcats still haven't agreed on DJ Augustin coming to Jersey as part of deal, team sources say. Nets need that in deal.

Ok then, Troy Murphy has an $11million expiring contract, that alone is worth more than Chandler and AR considering that they're in the lux tax. Secondly we can give them 2 1st rounders, we can give them the GS pick, which will be quite valuable considering it's GS, and of course one of ours. Like I said in an earlier post, the Nuggets are going to want two things: Expiring or cash for cap relief, and draft picks, and we can satisfy both criteria.
The part about KG. Like SOUP said, KG was an MVP-caliber player during the trade, Melo is a 2nd tier star, he's not worth what Minny got for KG. And besides what did they offer them. A promising player and draft picks and some cap relief, something we can offer Denver without having to worry about Knicks or Chicago topping.
I dont get this post.
Murphy is exp and? The Knicks have an exp too. Depending how you value players Gallo and AR might be better then any pick the Nets can offer.
As for KG. Promising player, picks and cap realief....you say thats what we can offer....thats what we ARE offering and what you're complaining about. James is not a promising young player thats gonna get you Carmelo Anthony. I think people are really underrating him for one and 2 are in a pretty delusional state thinking the Nets have leverage. We are the Nets, dont forget that, we never have leverage in anything, getting Anthony might be a good step in the direction of changing that culture but right now, Denver might have little leverage, but A they dont have to trade him right now and B they certainly dont have to trade him to the Nets.
The only way we can him is if we put the best offer on the table. Melo is not gonna say he chooses to play here over any other team so we have outbid everyone. Which is what we are going, and a young promising player, picks and cap relief is a very reasonable price to pay.

if behind closed doors they know Melo is on board, hopefully they can switch the deal up a little...obviously we're going off of reports, there might be multiple trade scenarios on the table...(inlcuding one without Favors in the deal that still would be better than what the Nuggest could get from the Bulls or Knicks)

I like the nets alot more then the knicks. I'm glad the knicks are not getting Melo. Congrats to the Nets from a sixer fan I'm rooting for ya. I'm also amazed Billy King pulled this off, wow that is shocking
I just have one question they will need to trade for a point guard who will that be. Troy Murphy could be a good fit without Favors in the picture now. Great trade for all sides. Denver got everything they wanted Derrick Favors(young player),Andrei Kirelenko(good player),and a couple of 1st round picks.

If D.J. Augustin is included in this trade then I can say that we made out pretty good. I'm sad to see Favors go, but at least we will have the ability to be contenders.
