I think the blindness on this board and with fans in general during the off season has been on the "We Suck - the Line Sucks, Lovie Sucks" bandwagon with absolutely no real analysis. Your negativity is a lot more blind than my optimism - which was at least backed up with a point by point analysis of WHY I think we are going 10-6. Also provided my analysis of the OC & DC after game one as well. Just becazuse you don't agree doesn't make me blind.

Where was/is your analysis on why the Bears will go 6-10 or whatever it is you think? - Other than a typical "We Suck - the Line Sucks, Lovie Sucks" statement?

I said 5-11 preseason for many reasons and only a couple have actually been remedied. The offensive line is still a massive trouble spot, which has turned the running game completely nonexistent. You put tight ends and running backs in the backfield to help Cutler get some time, and over time you'll run out of options for Cutler to throw to.

The secondary is still shaky and continues to give up those 10-15 yard passes on a regular basis, which is a product of the Cover 2. The defensive line has only sporadically gotten pressure on the quarterback because of the propensity for this team to only rush four.

The punt/kick return game has slid into an abyss, meaning difficult field position for the offense. The offense (passing game) has been terrific through two weeks, but that's still plenty to put on your QB's shoulders when the field position is consistently slanted.

One fear that has been somewhat alleviated was whether Cutler had the weapons to throw to. I had no confidence in the receiving core and, at least in Dallas, they were extremely solid. Forte has become quite a receiving threat out of the backfield, and even Olsen is getting into the fray which I'm not sure anyone expected. I've also like how effective Brian Urlacher has been.

I'm not negative. I'm certainly sarcastic and even a little cynical, but not negative. I know what flaws look like, and believe it or not, I know what strengths look like. Since the Super Bowl appearance there have been many more flaws than strengths. That's not being negative, that's being attentive.

One thing that I'll never understand about the "optimists" (and this happened on the Bucks board last season) is that optimists think that if someone looks at this team objectively, or God forbid negatively, they must rejoice when this team looks bad and hate life when they do well. That's something I'll just never understand.

My 5-11 prediction is looking low right now, and I'm fine with that. How could you think I'm not? If the Bears win, who gives a s***? But being 2-0 doesn't prove anybody right or anybody wrong. It means the Bears are 2-0.

To add, saying "Martz is one helluva OC and Marinelli is a solid DC" isn't analyzing, that's your opinion. Analyzing would be saying that "Martz is one helluva OC because of how quick he was to recognize the weaknesses in the o-line yesterday and didn't hesitate to make changes. Not just changes, mind you, but changes that go radically different from what we've seen from Martz in his career;" and "Marinelli is a solid DC because he has been allowing his linebackers to blitz more than in previous years, causing opposing quarterbacks to work themselves into mistakes." That's analyzing.

Notice I haven't mentioned Lovie Smith yet. He had arguably the worst call of his career in Week 1 on the 4th and Goal situation, but he deserves credit for allowing his coordinators to do their own things in Week 2.

After two weeks, I still have no grasp as to how good this team is. I've seen good things and bad things. It's two weeks into the season.

But I'm completely blinded with negativity, right? This just in, just because I'm not shrouded in the glowing sunlight of this franchise doesn't mean I'm negative. Sports fandom isn't an alpha and omega thing, it's objective. I don't go make threads on message boards telling fans how they should be a fan. I'm not negative. I'm not positive. I'm objective.

I'm surprised that the Bears are 2-0, but we could easily be 0-2. It seems like our cover 2 defense is really good for 56 minutes a game, but whenever teams go in a huddle up 2 minute drill, we get destroyed. Maybe it's because 8 yards in and to the sideline is uncovered in the cover 2, maybe it's because our d-linemen get tired, or maybe it's because we only have 2 safeties to cover the longball.

wish we had a different defense for the last 2 minutes of each half. On offense the Bears need to work on turnovers and scoring in the red zone, but improving the o-line would probably fix both of those...

I really think that we should stop running the ball. Most of the time when we do it, Forte runs into an offensive linemen. Our O-line is terrible at run blocking, okay at pass blocking and good at down the field blocking.

Forte, Hester, Knox, Aroshamadu, and Chester Taylor are all really good at the screen pass, and most of Cutler's interceptions come off of long ball throws instead of screen passes. If do a lot of 2 yard screen passes, we don't need to run the ball.

But right now it looks like the NFC North is the Packer's division...that could change Monday night. I'm going to the game and I scream untill I'm horse when the Bears Defense is on the field.

I don't at all think blinded with negativity. Its nice to finally have analysis (that is sound ) behind an opinion on the board. Generally people just shout out some negative whiny crap comment without rationale. I'm a homer and don't apologize for it, but each year I at least put my reasoning down for others to critique. And if you read through some of my posts, you will see that I'm not blindly optimistic as I have come down hard on our drafting, play calling and coaching quiet frequently.

I actually had a little more than that in the thread I started about Martz & Maranelli after the Lions game. If you want to see some of my thoughts on why I think that, you can read that thread. I also have put my views up on why I think this team will be better, not just because I'm a homer, but because I think there are good reasons for it.

I planed to update the OC/DC thread with more examples from week2, but in general I thought both coordinators were overlooked by the press after week 1 so I made the thread. For week 2, Martz is getting tons of credit in the press, so I don't think a thread needs to be created on it. Last week I discussed how on defense we finally played our CBs tight while blitzing - something Lovie never did. I also discussed the variations in Martz' formations and his ability to make adjustments in that and other threads.

In general, my statement was not about you but to Bear fans in general that have become whinny little bitches because they were afraid their team was gonna suck. Like the quote last week "I didn't see the game but here's my opinion...." or something close to that. Read through the sparse postings on this board during the offseason & I'm sure you'll see what I was getting at - but your cynicism has been part of the overall negativity that I'm talking about.

Ive been following the Bears A LOOOONG TIME and its years I feel they absolutely will suck but am perfectly happy being proven wrong . But this is probably the first bears team ever Im taking one game at a time. I refuse to allow myself to get to high or too low and will simply allow them to show me who they are . Im expecting to know more after as Lovie loves to say the "second quarter".
