We don't need a lot of points out of the four. We need a strong rebounder, tenacious defender, and a good passer.
Epke Udoh is all of that.
He can handle fours too big for Tyler, adds good depth and some potential to the big core.
Has a significant injury that may drop his value a bit and is owned by a team with no great need for him.
I don't think we will get someone who fits better in a mid round pick in 2011.
I'd offer a 1st for him or even better - a wing and S Jones.
Doesn't hurt our chances for Horford next season and we could trade off one of Tyler/Foster/Rolle/Epke later if we get lucky.

A wrist injury, I think we can say, will not impact him long term and will make him perhaps obtainable for a mid-round pick even though he was a high pick this year.
I saw someone on their board suggest he's worth a protected first. So a mid rounder + small piece more or less.

Most times Tyler will be ok defensively but he will have trouble against bigger fours and we do need some more depth unless Rolle turns out to be an amazing stroke of luck or Foster and Tyler both last all season.
Also if Epke is better than someone we may hope for next year why not pick him up this year.

A defensive minded, rebounding ,and good passing 6'11" guy would be perfect in our rotation.

Sort of a Jeff Foster insurance policy I guess - with hopes of future development in case we cant get an awesome four in free agency.

Um, the Warriors just spent a top 10 pick on Udoh in the most recent draft, knowing full well that they were going to try and make a run at David Lee.

One would think that means that Brandon Wright is unlikely to be there much longer, and that with Udoh likely to play both the 4 and the 5, that he's going to get a lot of minutes at the 4 and the 5 in rotation with Biedrins and Lee.


This would be like Bulls fans or Magic fans thinking they could get Paul George from us for a lotto protected 1st since we have Danny Granger, too.

Here's my thinking.
We are thin up front.
We want someone better than anyone we have with potential to be very good.

Horford's perfect... likely unattainable.
Smoove will cost us a lot
Randolph too thin
Landry's maybe adequate but I'd like to aim for a bit more PO
Spreigts, Diaw,Frye,R Evens, Primoz, G Davis, Green, Patterson... all not much better than we have.

Next years draft class is getting a little long to wait for if we want to build around DG and outside of the top few picks (which we wont get)will all fit in the - not quite good enough category.

That leaves a few that are pretty well thought of by their teams and would likely cost more than they're worth.. Love for example.

And then my best reasonable hopes...

Jason Thompson. Like him. Think he might figure it out. A good guy to keep our eye on but will cost us something significant now and if he shows improvement his price will go up. I'd trade for him .
Ed Davis. Good PO, decent size. Not real highly drafted or expected to start now but is on a team a bit thin up front too. He just might be a solid starter in the end. I'd consider a trade for him.

Epke. May not be a solid starter long term... but I'm not sure of that - in any case his deficiencies balance well with Tyler and he very well may be a defensive monster. He is also injured, out of the rotation, and may possibly be had on the cheap. A fairly crappy draft pick or a pair of superfluous pieces might work. I like bargains.

I realize we'd have to sweeten the deal a bit but I'd be happy to thin to roster. Add a wing or a third string big or a 2nd.
A good big is going to cost us something and as I just outlined he looks a more likely possibility than most.

What Golden State fans think about a player is completely different than what the Golden State front office thinks about a player. We'd have to add Rush and take on Bell for them to even think about moving Udoh for our 1st, and that still wouldn't get it done.

I sincerely doubt there is a chance that GS will move Udoh any time soon. He's the #6 pick and there's little that we'd be willing to give up that would make their team immediately better.

Also, considering his injury, I'm sure they'll wait to see what he can do on the court before even thinking of moving him, unless a star is going their way.

Another case of someone thinking NBA GM's just like to give away assets without getting equal value back. Why would Golden State trade a guy the JUST picked with the #6 pick, for a future 1st round pick that would most likely be anywhere between 10-13th pick?
