Allen, the NFL's reigning sack leader, told FOXSports.com that the Vikings and Buccaneers have held trade talks with the Chiefs and he anticipates a deal will get done prior to next week's draft...Allen said he is flying to Minnesota and has a visit set up with the Vikings by this weekend.

I just got off the phone with TF21 he feels the same way.
Here is what I hear...
A big reason for this is that the Chiefs and Vikings are "sister teams" meaning we have a great relationship with the teams and there is plenty of communication between them. Which is why we play them every summer. Hence why with out cap and need we are the first team to get a serious chance at Allen.
The initial trade would be a 1st and a 3rd. Being that we have an extra 3rd this is trading a late 1st for Allen. Which I am more than cool with.
Rumor is that the Bucs are unwilling to deal their first. Which means it could be a matter of us getting away with trading our 2nd for Allen being that our second is worth more than Tampa's second. I would fully expect a pick next year as well. From what I hear it would be our 2nd 3rd rd pick this year, and our 1st next year.
Also, from what I hear there have already been talks of us using the extra 3rd to move up in the first round and try and grab Harvey, thus using the same value for Allen is a great choice.
Glazer is really legit, and he cites that he talked with Allen and he is making a trip. This seems very legit to me.
Lets look at this from a few different perspectives.. ....
a. He fits the mold of what the Vikes like in a FA and are willing to over spend on to get.....
26 years old. 4 years experience. Can play in the system for life of his contract.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/p ... atsId=6885
b. Both teams have the CAP to sign him and still have money to sign their rookies.......
2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers $26049700
8 Minnesota Vikings $16604400
http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp
c.
d. Who would he be playing with......
Tampa - 2nd best defense overall (Yds per game)
Vikings - 20th best defense overall (Yds per game)
Tampa - 3rd total points allowed
Vikings - 12th total points allowed
Vikes
91 Ray Edwards DE 23 6-5 268 2 Purdue
73 Otis Grigsby DE 27 6-3 260 2 Kentucky
99 Erasmus James DE 25 6-4 266 3 Wisconsin
92 Jayme Mitchell DE 24 6-6 285 2 Mississippi
96 Brian Robison DE 24 6-3 267 R Texas
95 Kenechi Udeze DE 25 6-3 281 4 USC
97 Kenderick Allen DT 29 6-5 328 5 LSU
90 Fred Evans DT 24 6-4 305 2 Texas State
93 Kevin Williams DT 27 6-5 311 5 Oklahoma State
94 Pat Williams DT 35 6-3 317 11 Texas A&M
95 Ellis Wyms DT 29 6-3 290 7 Mississippi State

90 Gaines Adams DE 24 6-5 260 R Clemson
92 Charles Bennett DE 25 6-3 245 2 Clemson
93 Kevin Carter DE 34 6-6 305 13 Florida
94 Marques Douglas DE 31 6-2 292 7 Howard
79 Marquies Gunn DE 24 6-4 264 R Auburn
71 Jovan Haye DE 25 6-2 285 3 Vanderbilt
96 Jimmy Wilkerson DE 27 6-2 290 5 Oklahoma
95 Chris Hovan DT 29 6-2 298 8 Boston College
96 Greg Peterson DT 24 6-5 286 R North Carolina Central
98 Ryan Sims DT 27 6-4 315 6 North Carolina
91 Greg White DL 28 6-3 268 1 Minnesota
e. KC wouldn't have to worry about trading to either team as both Tampa and Vikes are NFC and not AFC teams limiting how many times Jared would play them.
f. Both teams run the same defense.
A few things to consider about the bucs......
Sizing up the roster
The roster limit during the offseason and training camp is 80. The Bucs are at 77, meaning they will need to release players as they sign picks.
It sounds like a lot of bodies, until you consider that the Bucs train in the heat of Central Florida. At least three or four of those players could start the season on the physically unable to perform list. Another half-dozen or so will be limited to one practice per day. There also are typically three or four players out with minor injuries.
"It's going to change the way we practice," Gruden said of the limited roster.
Five QBs who have won games for Tampa Bay
Gruden tossed this fun fact out: Five of the six quarterbacks on the roster have won games for Tampa Bay. Jake Plummer is the odd man out (for a lot of reasons). Their records, including playoffs: Jeff Garcia (8-6), Brian Griese (10-7), Chris Simms (7-9), Luke McCown (1-2), Bruce Gradkowski (3-8).
http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football ... 444861.ece
I hope we don't let him get out the door as he could go with the better D as a first option. Ole Bryzcheapski better have been hording money for just such a pick.

The big concern right now is the DUI's, if he gets busted with one more he could be done for the year I think.
Couple of things out of this one......
a. If its a first and third for a franchise player then we have a bit more bargaining power with respect to draft position......(How cool is last years deal swinging looking now)
17. Vikes (Higher than Tampa 20).
74. Vikings (Broncos) (Higher than Tampa 84)
b. I forgot about his DUI stuff. As someone said, could send a double standard message however, I think the difference could be attributed to young and stupid vice old and stupid. I know I used to do alot of stupid stuff when I was younger that I would never think of doing now.
c. Why is he visiting teams if the KC GM is coordinating the trade. Does he have some sort of "No trade Clause" coming out of a rookie contract?
d. G.M. Carl Peterson (not the head coach you yutz's) is a hard bargaining kindof guy but I am not so sure that Bryz and Spielman can't hold thier own with him.
and here is another link with the story and some perspective

To answer my "C" from above
Because he's a FA. As soon as KC trades him, the "Franchise" tag they put on him is gone (they don't get it back for this year) and, I believe, he would be on the open market unless the new team tagged him. So - a new deal needs to be done before a team would trade for him, otherwise they just inherit KC's problem
duh--brain fart,.

I just heard we could be exchanging BMac+2nd for Allen. Just a random buzz. Not sure if legit or not.
btw, more on the DUI's
He has had 2 DUIs...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Allen
[edit] Legal troubles
Allen has been arrested/charged for Driving Under the Influence a total of 3 times within 4 years. Once in Pocatello, Idaho, on May 11, 2002, and twice within 5 months in Leawood, Kansas on May 11, 2006 and on September 26, 2006. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail as a result of the latter arrest.[5]
In March 2007, Allen voiced his displeasure with the Chiefs' refusal to give him a long-term contract extension. Due to Allen's recent arrests, the Chiefs offered Allen a one-year contract and will judge upon his performance both on and off the field to see if he will be a long-term player in Kansas City. [6] No offers were made for Allen throughout free-agency due to the Chiefs' high tender for his trade (a first-round draft pick). On April 27, 2007, it was announced that Allen was suspended for the first four games of the 2007 Chiefs' season, and he will return to the Chiefs and "will do everything [he] can to help bring a championship back to the great fans of KC." [6] On May 22, Allen signed a one-year contract worth $2.5 million, but will have to forfeit $552,941 of his $2.35 million contract because of a four-game suspension for driving under the influence. [7] On July 16, Allen's suspension was reduced to two games following an appeal.[8]

heres the ESPN article
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3351406
Should the Chiefs be willing to listen to a trade, it creates an interesting scenario. The Chiefs currently have the No. 5 pick in the draft and are in need of offensive linemen. If the Chiefs would consider a trade of Allen, they could select Vernon Gholston or Chris Long to help them at defensive end and then take an offensive lineman with a first-round pick acquired in a trade.
i could see Bmac being that lineman
ESPN is reporting that we are considering this year's first and next year's second

I like this depending on the price. If we could get away with B-Kinnie and a 2nd, or our 2nd and the 3rds, I'd be better about it. Then we could try to trade down with the 1st and pick up OL later in the draft, along with some secondary help.
The DUI's really worry me. If it were one, it can be explained by the ignorance of youth, but there being multiple points to a serious problem. It's possible he's taken steps to address it, but it's worrisome enough to me that I wouldn't want to give up full value.

WOOOW!! Is this serious?? I'm speechless...
I just finished an exam today and was totally bummed out, but this completely changes everything. All along I've wanted a veteran DE who already has some experience, and if we can get him without having to give up a first this year and next, best case scenario. Him coming in to meet with the Vikings is a huge plus because I'm sure they won't let him walk after they meet him.

Jokes aside, I would worry about o-line stability if Mcskinny is dealt. It already needs an upgrade on the right.
That said, I'd do the Mac + the 2nd, but not more. If 17 is still in pocket (and DE is no longer a need) a new OT is very very solid - and with 5 from Jake, Otah, Clady, Williams, Albert - one has to make it to 17! If god forbid they all go, there is Cherilus to build up RT or trade back gaining another pick (think of all the attractive skill players left if those 5 o-line go in the first 16) and snag a Sam Baker at the end of the first.
Move on it.

No, right now it sounds like 1st and one of our 3rds. We wanted it to be our first and next years second, but they want picks this year. The Bmac was just speculation.
According to Michael Smith on espn this deal is done, it just will take longer to finalize until maybe the 11th hour.
I have 32 emails from various people about this issue. Give me a few days to look thru it and if I find anything juicy I will get back to you.

I once stalked a Vikings cheerleader so I do have connections in the organization. I know the security guard for Vikings personnel and he knows me very well.
Trading McKinnie for Allen would be hypocritical. The reason why we are trading McKinnie in the first place is because of his off the field problems.
Yeah, yeah everyone deserves a second chance and people can change but can't McKinnie change too?
Let's get this straight though, I would love to acquire Jared Allen, issues or not, I really don't care. I think athletes are wrongfully assumed to be role models when they shouldn't be.
But I get sick of when the TOA turns the other way from an incident when it is convenient for the team.
Recall the Dwight Smith smoking marijuana fiasco. The next game after he was cited was the Bears game at home, riding the 4 game winning streak. He played the next game and they never disciplined him, IIRC. Culture of Accountability my ass.
Long story longer, I know they haven't suspended McKinnie yet so I shouldn't be mad, but its just stupid when a team bends its rules for its convenience.
With that out of the way...
There HAS to be a provision in Allen's contract that if he gets cited for drinking and driving, he forfeits at least a portion of his signing bonus.
I hope we don't let Allen leave town. I'm confident the Vikings are willing to pay what Allen is looking for (Dwight Freeney money, 6 years, $72 million, $30 million guaranteed) based on the fact that they were probably going to sign Justin Smith had he made it here.
I like the idea of the 08 1st and 09 second. That way we can still pick up a decent player in the second round this year.
I would prefer not to trade McKinnie because we'd most likely have to use our 08 1st to pick up a left tackle. Its a very important year for us and I don't want a rookie protecting Jackson's blind side.

From what I hear now we wanted to do the 08 1st, 09 2nd, but the chiefs want the 08 1st and 08 3rd. That is not the issue anymore. The issue now is the amount of money we are giving him.
I believe do to the players union you cannot put that kind of provision in a contract. Otherwise there would be no problem.
