Nene to PHX (pure speculation)

Post#1 » by SideSwipe » Thu Sep 30, 2010 7:26 pm

With DEN making all of their players available except Billups and Lawson and us still lacking our PF and several other PF's likely not available, I wondered if it might make sense for PHX to make a run at him. He plays with a power game that could be great for the PNR. Injuries may be a concern, but the commitment would not be for long given his current contract.

DEC 15th Trade

PHX trades:
Warrick, Chilldress
PHX receives:
Nene

Nash/ Dragic
Richardson/ Dudley/ Janning
Hill/ Hedo/
Nene/ Lawal/ Clark
Lopez/ Frye/ Jones

PHX does it to get stronger and bigger at the 4 spot. DEN hits the reset button with younger athletic players that can still get the job done and take advantage of Billups' leadership for the last few years of his career. PHX loses Chilldress, who could really be great in the PHX system, but big guys cost talent. Warrick could also be great for PHX

Billups/ Lawson
Aflalo/ Smith
Harrington/Chilldress/ Clark
Martin/ Warrick/ Balkman
Andersen/ Williams/

And that is without getting any assets back in a Carmelo trade. Harrington acts like Carmelo lite (quite light) He is able to be a 20PPG scorer, and while he not good at defense, Carmelo, though better, isn't great either. This team would be light at the 5 spot, but Andersen can hold his own.

Thoughts? Of course, this would all be contingent on PHX not gelling fully by then and Warrick and Chill both not blowing up the stat sheet

Nene isn't a power forward though.

I'd be down for this trade. It would suck to lose Chill but I'd sign off on it if it meant getting Nene.

But let's be real here.

We're not winning a title next year and we might be better served to keep Childress for the long haul if he turns out to be a good player here and keep him as part of our core then add a free agent big man in addition to Josh and Goran and Robin and Earl and Gani and Hedo

I like the idea of acquiring Nene, but there is no way in hell Denver takes on those 'unique' contracts and gives up the best player in the trade.

On a side note, Brandon Bass sucks. We want nothing to do with him. I'd way rather Hill, plus we already have Warrick.

But yah, if we could somehow turn J-Rich into Nene, I'd be all for it. We would maybe need to make it bigger, with a Dudley/Smith or Hill/Smith swap involved, but I would love it (we might need to throw in a pick aswell).

Nash/Dragic/Janning
Smith/Childress/Janning
Hedo/Hill/Childress
Nene/Warrick/Lawal
Lopez/Frye/Lawal

Also, to anyone who thinks Nene isn't a prototypical PF, your mistaken. This man is definitely a PF, and not a C, but just has been played as a center with the Nuggets. He would be a killer 20/10 type PF playing alongside Nash without a doubt as long as he could be healthy.

PS. I think Josh Smith will become available in a matter of time. The Hawks are in terrible condition, and want to move Horford to the PF full time, which cuts Smith out of the equation. Hopefully we can swoop in and work something out where they acquire a center and we get Smith. One of the Sacto bigs are also likely to be moved come trade deadline, there's just too many big bodies down there.

I can see a Dally/J-Rich/Smith shift with Rich going to Sacto, Smith coming to us (maybe along with Garcia) and Dally to Atlanta.

Here's the thing, we used to play this front court rotation:

PF - Marion
C - Stoudemire

Now we play:

PF - Turkoglu
C - Lopez

The former has better finishing, slightly better rebounding, and slightly better shot-blocking.

The later has more size, better playmaking, further range, better passing and better post defense.

If anything, we finally have a legitimate 7 footer in the lane to block shots and anchor our defense. We should be thrilled. We haven't had one of those in, well, forever.

This mistrust in Turkoglu is misplaced. I actually like throwing the prototypical team format out the window. From the early nineties "small ball" through D'antoni's era, up until now, we have never been a traditional team.

I really like Nene, but I'd honestly rather have Childress and Warrick. Childress will look great in our offense, so will Warrick. At this point, I feel that our PF spot is a lot like Mike Shanahan's RB situation in Denver use to be, just plug em in and they'll get 1,000 yards rushing-style of appraoch. His offense was just built that way. The PHX Suns are just built that way.

Now... If we're talking about Josh Smith, I might have to ease up on the criticism. That guys would love catching alley-oops fron Nash/Dragic.

Hedo at the power forward spot? No. Hedo at the SMALL forward spot? Yes.

Nash - Rich - Hedo - Warrick - Lopez.

Sixth man: Hill.

Roleplayers: Dragic, Chill, Jared.

Prospects: Clark, Gani.

Bench warmers: Jones, Atkins.

I live in Denver and I've said I'll consider Denver my second team when they get rid of K mart and JR Smith but not until then. I want no part of JR! ANYONE BUT HIM!!!

I'm not too sure about Nene anyways. I thought about this a couple days ago. He's never averaged more than like 7.5 rebounds, which isn't all that good. Not even by our standards. Lots of injuries, questionable fire... At least his contract isn't bad. We'd be stuck with him this season and next, which isn't all that long

I like JR, as Mary would say (if he were still around), "The boy has SWAGGER!".

swagger = guns in his jersey somewhere. I just know one day he's gonna whip out a .45 and shoot into the ceiling and see nothing wrong with it. K-Mart won't either. He just strikes me as someone not even Gentry could get to buy into the whole "team" concept

But we love us some guns here in AZ! :D

He plays defense and is a lights out 3 point shooter. I would love him coming off the bench for us.

Hey no hijacking th thread...lol 8-)

Correction to whoever said Nene is not a power forward. He is active enough and has power play. I actually think he is much more of a PF than a C. He came into the league as a PF if I remember correctly.

I thought Childress cannot be traded until like February or something?

Anyway, its a no to Nene for me. He's past his prime, and injuries are a concern for him.

Of course i'd do it. Denver wouldn't though. Nene IS a natural PF btw.

Nene is a natural PF, yes, but after playing years as a center....

If Denver ends up trading Melo, they may want jrich's expiring. This could be a possibility if Denver decides to rebuild.

I had originally thought of J-Rich's expiring, but I would really like to try it somehow wihtout it. If needed, I would consider it, but we'd need to take a look at the overall value of the deal and player fit
