Training Camp 10-11
Not starting another thread about all the Melodrama...Unless he's officially traded or signed lets keep this a discussion about the rest of the Denver Nuggets.
I think that the status of our big men is alarming. The post has a couple articles that touch on this topic, this is one...http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_16190839
Sounds like Bird will be out till new years and Martin longer. Our front court will be a big question mark all year. The addition of Harrington helps a little but he's having foot pain so who knows how ready he'll be for the season to begin. Balkman will see plenty of PT this year.
The status of our backcourt is much better. I'm a little concerned that Billups will be tired because of all the FIFA ball but hopefully Karl rests him in camp and uses Ty much more this year. Affalo had a solid year for us last year, i'm assuming he'll provide a little more in year two.
As always JR is the wildcard. He'll never mature but if the kid can grow to be consistent that would help. Each year I keep waiting for him to make it over that hump but he never quite does it.
Buckle up....going to be a bumpy ride this season

Great idea
Here is some good news:

It is going to be a season of small ball

Here is some good news:
Smith showed up to media day a slimmed-down version of himself ready to start training camp today after a summer of trade rumors. The 3-point sharpshooter said he put his focus this summer on getting better, not getting moved.

If Melo is traded, I'd rather JR start at the 3 rather than Harrington.

Depending on who we get back they may both be starting. Kmart and Andersen are rumored to be out until at least Jan.

Lighter can just mean that he gave up lifting weights. Focused on getting better? I doubt it, judging by his twitter over the summer.

Laswon Visits the shot Dr.

The second-year guard hopes his new-look jumper will enhance his arsenal, which already makes him one of the more dynamic backup guards in the league. Carmelo Anthony proudly endorsed Lawson's game after Wednesday's practice. The kid's work is paying off.
"I've been working on shooting off the dribble, floaters and standstill 3-pointers — because that's where most of my shots came from last year," said Lawson, who averaged 8.3 points per game as a rookie. "And for me to be a better player, I've got to knock them down. That's the main thing I've been working on, and being more assertive."
Lawson averaged 20.2 minutes per game last season, and he said the coaches told him that this season his minutes will be in the "25-30" range. This is exciting news for Nuggets fans, who adore the 5-foot-11 bolt of energy, though it means less texting and chatting (or even blinking) at the Pepsi Center, or one might miss Lawson zipping down the court.
"I just think he's very difficult to cover with one player," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "There aren't many guys in this league who can keep Ty in front of them. He's pretty efficient, he's pretty fundamental, but how we upgrade his opportunities is part of how we make our team better."

Re: Training Camp 10-11
I found a good little read about where the Birdman is in recovering from the knee surgery that he had in the offseason:
The entire article can be found by following the link:
http://www.nba.com/nuggets/features/and ... 00908.html
“I want to get back (as soon as possible),” he said. “Anything I can do to keep my presence in there and not lose a step on the court … that’s why I’ve got to stay in the gym every day and continue to strengthen it up and continue to work on my core and keep working on my shot. I feel real good about it, and I’m getting more confident every day that it’s going to get better.”
“Bird’s been absolutely ridiculous this summer. He’s worked incredibly hard,” Hess said. “He’s pumped to go every day. It’s a different dude. He’s revitalized. It’s to the point where we continuously have to hold him back so we can stay within the progressions. What a great thing to actually have to hold someone back.”
“The work he’s putting into it and the ability to get everything stronger, he’ll come back better than he was. I have no fear about that,” Hess said. “If you commit to the process and you work your butt off and you have a little bit of luck, you can come back better.”

Anyone notice that we have Knee injuries with nearly every significant big on this team? Maybe Hess is the problem...

Re: Training Camp 10-11
If this little blurb is true don't count on seeing K-Mart anytime soon....
He must be smoking crack if he thinks he should have been offered an extention with his knee problems.
DENVER -- Kenyon Martin won't rush his rehab from knee surgery with no contract beyond this season.
The Denver Nuggets forward said Thursday that with nobody in a hurry to give him a new deal, "why would I be in a hurry to risk further injury?"
The 32-year-old veteran says he doesn't want to become a free agent, but he also makes clear he isn't exactly pleased with the Nuggets. He was hoping for an extension and wasn't happy they signed Al Harrington to a five-year, $33 million contract this offseason, a deal he said could have been offered to him.

Re: Training Camp 10-11
Kenyon is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Not only does he think he deserves an extension while injured....but now as a result of not getting one, he wants to sit out longer to "prove a point"...which will only save the Nuggets more money via insurance, and hurt whatever chance he has at getting a decent contract in free agency next year.
Ridding ourselves of these **** morons will feel great.

When Kmart is healthy he is pretty good, the problem is he is never healthy. Plus, he has never matured enough to be able to keep his cool in a heated situation.

Re: Training Camp 10-11
That's just Kenyon being prideful. Yeah it hurts the team concept a little but I'd rather have a guy that believes in himself with an injury that can do what Kenyon does than a guy with perfect health that doesn't believe in his skills.
I do think he has to take a step back. He can make his money maybe writing a book on how he came back from 2 microfractures - with a ghostwriter or whatever. I respect Kenyon for his dedication to staying in shape despite those knees and the broken damn leg he once had.
It's a story on its own and is deserving of attention and maybe an endorsement somehow. That's where Kenyon's money should be. Then everything else is just play basketball and don't worry about what he's earning quite as much. Let the young guns earn the money.
It's not like he's earned only a tiny contract.....he's been making 10+ mil for how many seasons? I mean c'mon. Like he proved last season he's still an amazing player....but he can't play quite as much. So it's like he's worth more than a lot of players but we only use him X minutes on the court.
He could also have a big payday being part of a championship team.
Anyway, love to have him around as long as he's humble enough to understand what he's needed for now. Big moments, limited time, help get the young players to where they need to be mentally.

Re: Training Camp 10-11
Martin clarifying what he said...
Same old song and dance from K-Mart...
“I didn’t get hurt on my own. I didn’t have to have surgery because I’m a schoolteacher,” Martin said. “I play basketball for a living. I play a contact sport for a living, which is hard on your body. That’s why I had surgery. It’s not like I wanted to go get my knee worked on just for fun and make a fuss of everything. No. What I’m going through is legit. I don’t want to keep going on about it, but I’m going through something serious right now.”
"When it was time for me to ride the (stationary) bike, I went and bought a bike,” Martin said. “When it was time for me to do the elliptical (machine), I went and bought an elliptical. They told me I could get in the pool. I’ve got a pool at my house. They said I need a swim vest, so I wouldn’t sink. I went and bought a swim vest and fins.”

Re: Training Camp 10-11
funny thing is when i simulate a season with updated rosters in nba2k10 the addition of Al freaking Harrington makes them go to the Finals most of the time, but losing to the Celtics or Heat each time. Their offense is the best rated 93 in the game
.
