Name the Bears 1st Round Pick

OK, BULL even PAX's poll showed everyone guessing either OL or RB in the first round. Let's go on record as to the specific player you think the Bears will end up with in Round 1. I've included some guys that you would expect to either see gone by pick 14 or last a bit longer in case you think the Bears will end up trading up/down.

My pick was Chris Williams. He's been on the Bears radar for a long time, and he's consistently showed up on mock drafts as the Bears pick, without much movement.

He also fits Lovie's run run run system, where offensive lineman have to be quick, nimble, and full of endurance.

I picked Chris Williams as well. For me, it was going to be one of the OL either way but taking into account that I don't think a few of those guys will be there I went with Williams. From what I've heard Clady should be gone by the time we pick and I've heard Otah going to us in a few mock drafts but have also heard that he may not be able to step into a starter's role immediately which is what the Bears need.

edit: it really is hard to say with OL as I can only go off word of mouth as I've not seen any of these OL play.

Wow - 3 for 3 as I'm going Chris Williams as well. I think it'll be between him and Otah.

ChronicKerr - SI.com has clips of a lot of these guys but the offensive linemen clips are questionable at best as they tend to focus on the play itself and not the blocking. I had trouble figuring out who the featured linemen was on a lot of these.

I'm going Jeff Otah, only because I think Williams and Clady will both be off the board by pick 14.

Bears need to go O-line in the first round, maybe even the second as well. Brandon Albert will be a beast, but I would hate to pick a guard in the first with a glaring hole at LT

That's why he's rising up the boards - evaluators think he has the talent to play LT and I believe he had start there in a couple of games last season for Virginia and showed well.

With the 14th pick in the 2008 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select....Chad Henne, QB, Michigan.

Seriously though, I also think Williams will be the pick.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but don't we have Tait at LT? I thought the holes we had to fill on the offensive line was at LG to replace Brown and RT to replace Miller.

Tait has only been playing LT because we don't have one. He was signed and paid big bucks to play RT. Whoever we get in the draft should be a LT, and will be better than any option we have right now.

Thanks for the info. I guess that means we need a new LT and LG, as well as a WR, and maybe a RB and QB... and that's just on the offensive side of the ball!

I selected Jeff Otah, but if he's off the board early, then I say go with Rashard Mendenhall. There are ton of linemen in this draft, sometimes the ones that go unnoticed are the ones who'll work the hardest and output the better performance (at least I'd hope).

Yeah, Tait is just a plug in right now, and needs to get out. He doesn't excel at LT, and is a waste of money having him play there.

I could also handle Kenny Phillips if all the major O-Line were off the board. Hes pretty much a sure thing, and we can use the depth at safety.

All your steps are reversed for the side, so if you were playing RT for most of your life and then all of a sudden you play LT everything you do would be in reverse and as a football player, it's very hard to unlearn something you spend a bunch of time on and do it the opposite way. It's like training to use your left hand.

Also, with the LT you're protecting the QB's blindside. The QB(unless left handed I imagine) basically throws from his right shoulder, and he can't really see the ENTIRE field, especially if he's looking down field. This is how fumbles are forced usually, the QB is hit from behind etc. If you're playing RT, the QB is essentially staring the DE down and knows how to move up etc but the LT has no such luxury which is why they call it one of the hardest positions to play.

Sorry, I was going to chime in and say Chris Williams if he's available, but that would look stupid now since they actually did take Chris Williiams.

Once the draft unfolded, I was hoping we'd try to trade down 3-4 picks and grab an extra selection, but that may not have been an option.

You can make it up by naming the Bears two 3rd round picks in advance....now THAT would take talent.
