Why we shouldn't draft a QB

Post#1 » by tbhawksfan » Sun Apr 20, 2008 9:01 am

Because;

We absolutely need a very good DT, a starting LT, another OT, an OG, a SS, an ILB, an OLB, a TE, a starting CB and maybe a RB.

If we draft Ryan, we get a very highly rated QB, but a team that isn't equiped to help him. If we take a QB in the second or early third, we get a lesser QB and lose a pick that might be a good contributor at another position.

Next season we will likely have another top pick. Taking a QB with our first next year will make sense. We will have a better and deeper team (after a good draft this year) and a Franchise QB could come in seamlessly.

I'd love to see a draft like this:

Dorsey DT
Cherilus OT
Smith CB
Otah OT
Crable OLB
Rachal OG
Morgan SS
Davis TE
Greco G/T
Killberbrew ILB
Felton FB

We think competitive development this year, draft a Franchise QB and build a contender.

well.... Brohm, Falcco, and Henne are all pretty good value if you can get them in the second round. i was watching some film on Falcco, and he does remind me of Schaub alittle bit. and Brohm would have been a top ten pick last year, so gambling on him in the second is not so bad

cornerback is actually a position the Falcons don't need to address (right away).... look, the Falcons already spent two high draft picks in the last two years on cornerbacks. Falcons need to go ahead and let them play and earn their keep. and if they can't cut it, then cut them and get the best corner in next year's draft.

unless some first round CB drops to the second, i really don't see point in reaching for a CB.

We need to take a flyer on Brohm or Flacco.

Then we should try to trade down and exploit someone who wants Ryan or McFadden.

We need so many position players. Baltimore would make sense.

We need to fill many holes just to field an NFL team. Getting a second tier QB isn't usually the path to a Championship. Fill the holes this year, get the QB next. Brohm or Flacco might be worth a high second but I think there are quality starting material players available at those picks, they just don't play QB.
