OT - Wolves vs. Twins- Ad space???

Post#1 » by Breakdown777 » Sat Oct 2, 2010 12:46 am

So I guess Target Center will be displaying a giant Wolves ad that will be completely visable from the 3rd base line at Target Field, and the Twins are upset about it.

I have to say I'm a bit confused. Why would this be a big deal? I guess nobody wants to associate with that horrible Wolves team.

This is such a pointless argument.

They are reportedly complaining about the size of the ad, and that it doesn't fit in with the current spirit of Target Plaza

I'm pretty sure that's not quantifiable, whatever it is. I'm pretty sure the Twins just think it ruins the view because there is this HUGE ad right in everyone's view. It becomes less of a "I'm an ad and I'm small enough so that you can choose to read me but I'm not overly intrusive" and more of a "I'm an ad who's so gargantuan that whenever you glance in my direction you will be forced to read me, thus taking my attention away from the game." Even by this logic, this argument is pretty feeble and I think the Twins should probably just get over it. (They're just in a bad mood after losing a ton of games lately)

Yes, the ads in the park are ok, and the park itself (target) is ok, but having someone else profit from it? oh no....

Oh, now I get it. I was under the impresssion that the ad was for the Wolves, but they are just selling space on the wall so twins game antendees see the Ad....aren't both building under the same ownership, or "target" umbrella?

I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this, or see how they could gain from voicing a problem with it. Here I was, all excited that I actually beat Klomp to a Wolve article, only to find out that it basically has nothing to do with the Wolves.....sigh.....someday I'll be the 1st to post a worthy news-thread....someday.

I was just trying to point out the hypocrisy. When you've named a place Target plaza, you don't get to complain about others selling advertising. The Twins have been bigger whores than anyone. I mean they had a giant inflatable milk carton in right field when they played in the Metrodome.

the only the Twins care about is that their fans can see an ad that they're not getting paid for, it nothing to do with anything else.

Seems to me the Twins decided to build there. Did they expect to evict their neighbors for doing what they want with their own building?

And if this is such a big issue, why don't the Twins just outbid Samford? They have the bucks.

1. The Target umbrella means nothing. Wolves sell ad space to Sanford. Target gains nothing from that ad. (and I was actually going to post it, so you did beat me)

2. Its not Twins vs Sanford. It was a Twins vs Wolves thing. Timberwolves won the legal battle, and thats why Twins aren't happy. They wanted that ad space on the Target Center to use themselves.

I should have been clearer. The Twins should have outbid Samford in their offer to the Timberwolves to use the space for advertising.

But it had nothing to do with any outbidding.

The Wolves won the right to sell ad space on the wall earlier this year. After Target Center operator AEG Management MN denied the team's request to sell ad space, the Wolves sued. The team argued that operating agreements gave them advertising rights, and a judge agreed.

I'd say put it up after the post-season. Make a little bet between the Twins and Wolves. Twins win the World Series then Wolves don't put up the sign, if Twins don't the sign goes up.

Klomp - the Timberwolves are selling the space to advertisers.

If the Twins want the site, they should offer more to the Timberwolves than Samford did to advertise there. Heck, they could make an offer to buy the wall.

It was never an issue of Sanford outbidding the Twins.

It's ad space Klomp. It can be bought by anyone. Shrinks point is that if the Twins were so against ads on the Target Center, they could have bought the space. This isn't that hard.
