Jose Bautista's most curious adventure

Post#1 » by dagger » Sat Oct 2, 2010 6:22 pm

Just focussing on home runs doesn't do Jose's performance enough justice.

When you look across his entire line, it is so bizarrely wonderful, it's like something out of Lewis Carroll - or Ferris Bueller.

Here's the list

4th ever player with at least 35 2B, 50 HR, 100 BB, 100 R, 120 RBI. Others: Ruth (1920, 1921), Gonzalez (2001), Wilson (1930)

7th ever player in MLB history to post 50 HR, 100 walks and 30 doubles in a season.

14th ever player in MLB history to post 50 HR and 100 walks.

And I wonder how many outfield assists the Babe had.

Oh, and this: among guys who have hit at least 54 homers since 1954 (when this stat began to be tracked), only Jose and Roger Maris ('61) have fewer than 8 Intentional walks. Maris had 0 and Bautista 2.

And if Jose steals 1 more base he'll only be the 3rd player in history to hit 50 HR's, 100 RBI's, 100 BB's, 10 SB's and 20 2B's. Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds are the only two guys to ever do that.

Add 20 points to his average and he would be a shoo in for mvp. If the team its self had a even slightly better average he would have put up crazy rbi numbers.

Or you could assume that they have been counting these on their fingers all season.
