End of season trade -- Flynn for Mayo

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Tue Sep 28, 2010 6:59 pm

Flynn + Grizzlies Pick back for Mayo.

I'm not a big Mayo fan, but I could see this shaking out because:

1) They probably can't afford to keep Mayo longterm.
2) They have Henry to replace Mayo at SG.
3) They'll need a replacement for Conley at PG.

Rubio/Ridnour
Mayo/Webster/Ellington
Beasley/Johnson/Hayward
Love/Tolliver
Darko/Pekovic/Koufos

I would do this despite not thinking THAT much of Mayo.

The Mayo-Beasley friendship would be another interesting dynamic on this team.

I like it assuming Rubio pans out there wont be a need for both. Frankly though a lot of this hinges on if Darko and Beasley pan out. If they do we have to figure out what to do with Webster and Johnson

None of things matter, because, while I'm not the biggest Mayo fan, Mayo is the far far superior player compared to Flynn.

Looks nice, especially because Mayo is a great fit next to Rubio. But Flynn + pick won't get you Mayo.

Just for the sake of discussion:

Flynn + Brewer for Mayo + Vazquez

tomorrow?

Shrink fail. Vazquez can't be traded until October 24th.

Maybe this is a stupid question but where do you think we would be if we had kept Mayo and thus logically kept Al Jeff. Assuming it didn't make too large a difference in the standings we probably would have taken a gamble with taking Rubio at the 4 (since we have Mayo if he didn't pan out) maybe then Rubio dosen't get scared off and we trot out Rubio, Mayo, Brewer, Al Jeff, Darko?
Or something like that

for the hell of it, hypothetically speaking, I'd pit it as a 2/3/4 of Mayo/Wes/Al vs Wes/Beasley/Love. I think it comes down to if Beasley can be better than Mayo, the first 3 is much more established at this point.

Well, you probably have to cross off Beasley and Rubio.

Yes, we traded Mayo for Love (which I think is a win straight up), but we also got Mike Miller and moved Jaric.

Mike Miller was obviously half the value of the trade that got us the #5 pick, which turned out to be Rubio.

Jaric's deal would have cut into $7.5 mil of last summer's cap space - cap space we needed to swing the Beasley deal .. especially if we wouldn't be trading Al in this scenario.

In effect, McHale traded Mayo for Kevin Love, half of Rubio, and Beasley. Not too shabby,

I think it would be more like Flynn for Henry + pick. Henry cannot be a happy camper in Memphis.
