Is there anything against stomping on someone's feet?

Cause that would be a pretty effective move. Get them against the cage and stop the S*** out of their feet.

I always wondered that... as well as punching in the liver when they are in a clinch.

I don't know if any of you have ever been in fight or even sparred, but I used to do some amateur boxing when I was a teenager and there was only two times I was counted out... and one of them was with a liver punch which just felt like someone hit me with a baseball bat, and the scary thing was that it was with 10 ounce gloves.

Actually, some guys do that all the time. Chris Leben comes to mind, but there are others.

I agree that it would hurt like a bitch (I kinda feel like I'd rather just get punched in the face), but there's really no chance of a foot stomp ending a fight. I suspect that is why most people don't do it. Could be seen as wasted energy, and possibly too much of a risk of losing your balance (even though I don't think I've ever seen someone get taken down off a failed foot stomp attempt).

As CPT mentioned Chris Leben does it . I think more fighters should do it when clinched against the fence.

Most guys are too concerned with the clinch to think about stomping feet.

I feel like there is almost an informal pact between fighters not to do it. Because if you notice, when one fighter starts to do it, the other always starts and it just becomes a stomp fest.

On the other hand, the liver shot is definitely a very underutilized move in MMA, as are body shots in general, just as Bas Rutten. :)

The liver is definitely an effective spot to strike. I've gotten side-kicked there by a black belt during a sparring match and it was one of the most painful experiences I've ever had. Probably worse than getting hit in the nuts. The solar plex is another good spot too. Gotten punched there before and I couldn't even breathe after.

There are also some guys who don't like to inflict unneccessary damage on their opponent. Since foot stomps will not end a fight, those guys probably see no point.

Foot stomps are sorta douch baggish, its like neck crankin in a BJJ match. Your not gonna submit them or improve position your just being a sucka.

I'm sure you've noticed that clinching against the cage will result in the guy pressed against the cage getting kneed in the upper thigh. He will then, in turn, knee the other guy in the exact same manner. Even sometimes with punches, guy pressed against the cage eats a body shot, so he'll send one the other way. Just like foot stomps. I would love to see a guy pretend to throw a reactionary knee and go for a takedown instead.
