I'll be too busy checking out the Meat Index over at Gaga's blog to read this drab.

ESPN is showing foresight here. The Heat are the next Jordan-era Bulls. Establishing yourself as the premier news outlet for the biggest story in sports is a smart move. The new Heat are the best thing that's happened to ESPN (and the NBA) since Bron was drafted.

Maybe, but think logically here....they have dedicated sections for BOSTON/LA/CHICAGO/DALLAS. Why is it bad if they make one for the most hyped team hyped teams ever?

Re: ESPN to launch "Heat Index"
Can a reasonable Heat fan answer one question for me?
With all of this "U MAD?" nonsense being thrown around and threads like this, why do so many Heat fans get upset at the amount of haters that are rampant right now? Isn't gloating about this and that meme just feeding the haters?

Exactly, people are hating this yet they don't know of the index's for Boston and LA, but no Miami can't have one

thats pretty much what I was going to say.
They have developed different sites for different big cities. Going for just a team (not a city) extends this, but its all in the same realm- they get traffic by individual sections due to information people want to see

Joking aside, It's all good. ESPN needs mulla, so if they think this can generate some, so be it. After all, it is a business. Crap, Disney (owns espn) just spent an undisclosed amount of money to sponsor the Atrium at the new Amway Center. It's all about the $$$$

Re: ESPN to launch "Heat Index"
The difference between the local sections and the Heat section is that the former is specifically targeted to locals of those cities. With the Heat index, the audience is much broader.
Make no mistake about it, the Heat's appeal is national. Everyone that likes basketball but isn't a die hard of some other team (maybe even them) is going to follow the Heat like the Bulls were followed in the 90's.

This. It works business-wise why not milk it?

Re: ESPN to launch "Heat Index"
Excellent move by ESPN. I welcome the additional coverage.
Those who wish not to view it can ignore it. Don't see what's wrong with it. ESPN already has specific sites for LA/Chicago/NY. This really is no different except they are ignoring the rest of Miami sports.

I already have. I haven't cared about ESPN as I used to years ago.
Even though they have a dedicated site for NY, everything about ESPN is biased. I want an objective sports outlet to get my news fix from and they aren't cutting it anymore.

I remember when ESPN wasn't tantamount to a tabloid.

I think ESPN has had a countdown to 72 wins for about 3 years straight now.

All media is biased. Even ones who try to pride themselves on being independent from opinion (e.g. BBC) end up being biased - you can't change human nature, and human nature is to have an opinion.
Anyway, I don't know how this affects anyone? If you don't want to read it, you don't have to. Likewise if you want to read it, you can do!
ESPN is a business, and they've spoken about recently how all pages / stories about Miami Heat are their most viewed pages. You can hate all you want but they're just giving people what they want.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Re: ESPN to launch "Heat Index"
hold on....all ESPN is gonna do is add Miami to their list of cities up top on their website? meaning you don't have to click on it unless you want to?
if that's the case........................................................don't click on it.
