We've now lost our two in Grant and Burnett so no room for error.

We've really lost more than average. Last season + this season in terms of players that were going to play significant snaps we've lost:

Bigby
Harris
Jolly (suspension)
Harrell
Burnett
Grant

And that is also with Barnett, Chillar, Jones, and Underwood banged up at various points. I know injuries happen in the NFL, but our D has just gotten owned this past year plus.

The drop off from Burnett to Martin isn't that big for me to panic about this.

We need Bigby and Harris back, though.

Its obvious how this seasons gonna go. Gonna be one of those injury plague seasons where Packers lose alot of key players and that will be why they underachieve and hop eto bounce back next year.

Anyone else hear that Chillar might need shoulder surgery?

I was listening to 540 around 1PM and i think it was Dan Needles or Drew Olson who said that he heard that Chillar was getting tests on his shoulder. If the tests were bad news, he'd need surgery which would end his season.

The San Francisco 49ers have parted with Michael Lewis, two days after the veteran safety reportedly requested his release.

Lewis did not travel with the team to Atlanta this weekend, having left the team Friday for what coach Mike Singletary deemed personal reasons.

The team announced Lewis' release Monday in a press release.

"I want to thank Michael for his hard work and leadership as a 49er," Singletary said. "We wish him and his family all the best."

Lewis and the 49ers' divorce began when the safety lost trust in the 49ers organization, according to a report Saturday in The Sacramento Bee. That mistrust may stem from an NFL Network report last Wednesday that Lewis and veteran LB Takeo Spikes were on the verge of being benched. Singletary denied the report, saying there would be no lineup changes vs. the Falcons, and stayed true to his word, starting Spikes.

Rookie S Taylor Mays started in place of Lewis and made his presence felt. He recovered a blocked Falcons punt in the end zone in the first quarter for a touchdown.

Lewis, 30, has started all 50 games in which he has appeared with the 49ers. He took a pay cut to remain with San Francisco for a fourth season. He played his first five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

I'd like to see Green Bay atleast, ATLEAST take a look at this guy. But it will never happen.

He may be back in two games, but he hasn't played football in almost a year. I'm not saying I want lewis, I'm just saying, it's worth a look, rather than possibly having to go to the P.S. or use a special teams player to fill the void.

This hurts pretty bad, IMO. The kid was playing pretty well and everyone around him was just getting comfortable with him back there. I hate the thought of relying on a rusty Bigby coming back and Martin is just OK.
