I don't think the Jazz want him to turn into a P&P guy anytime soon, they just like having that option. It works better against some teams than a P&R, and that's simply a fact. It will be nice to have in his quiver. Don't forget, the P&P is crucial to some of the easy baskets the Jazz are famous for being able to get. Every PF should be able to do it really.

But really, I wouldn't worry. He loves going to the rim, he is big and loves dominating there, so he is going to want to do that most of the time. He certainly isn't going to be our go to guy from range.

2 points is 2 points. Besides, the more diverse of a player he is the harder it will be to guard him. Pick and pop one or two times then go down and post up the next couple plays and repeat. Would be unstoppable.

Well, Boozer liked the pick and pop only because he was afraid that he'd trip over a bag while answering the doorbell in the paint.

I think Al is liking his options in the offense (pick & roll, pick & pop, etc.) rather than have to go stand on the block and create everything on his own like he did in Minnesota. David Locke had some great analysis of how Minnesota used him last year and it wasn't in a way that took advantage of his abilities. They expected him to catch the ball and beat 4 guys on his way to the basket.

But, but, this is Al Jefferson. He is probably better at running over 4 guys on his way to the basket than popping the J, and he's pretty good at popping the J.

Al Jefferson was already a very good outside shooter as a rookie but it was never called upon in his time in Boston. He is ready made for that role and I doubt he gives up his low post game.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Big Al put on the pounds for a reason.Back them down and punish them.Let Sap and memo, when he comes back use their shot away from the basket! He's our BIG i think i want to keep him around the basket.

Couple things with Al (wolves mod here)

His fg% in the paint and the jumper are radically different. You will see games that Al falls in love with his pump fake jumper and you just shake your head.

The bigger issue is he does not get to the FT line. A post player without the ability to collect fouls will be disappointing. This was perhaps one of the bigger complaints about Al last year.

I was always bothered at how little time he spent at the freethrow line. For a guy that spends the majority time of his in the paint he should be shooting a lot more. His passing and defense are both still up in the air too.

Passing is a matter of bbIQ. He will catch and look to make a basic pass but once he starts his move he will not pass.

His defense is the same way. He is a willing defender but he lacks the athletic ability to defend the 4 and he is not a smart rotational defender. His wingspan should make him a great defender. Maybe Sloan can reach him.

It became clear for the wolves last year that the best role for Jefferson was the 3rd big as an off the bench black hole scoring threat. Due to his contract he would never do that in MN.
