There's no doubt in my mind that if a player on the Red Sox or Yankees hit 54HRs this year, it would have been a bigger story. You'd have PTI arguments about whether that guy or someone else should win MVP.

Re: No love for JBau on CNNSI
It's one guy's opinion. His picks probably aren't going to end up even close to the actual results.
I think Miguel Cabrera's gonna win it, and he probably deserves it. The one thing that's keeping Batista from getting it is his batting avg. If it was 30 points higher I'm pretty sure this would be unanimous.

you could argue that JBau's Jays have more wins that the Tigers.

I don't think having 4 more wins than another team in a full baseball season can constitute for a very good argument, especially when both teams didn't even make the playoffs.

Re: No love for JBau on CNNSI
Alex Rodriguez won MVP while playing for the leagues worst team at the time (Texas Rangers), just because he put up similar numbers to what Jose Bautista did this season.
............ and A-Rod did it in the Steroid era. When everyone was doing it. Nothing special. Atleast Bautista is doing ti clean and doing at a time when such a feat is actully meaningful.
MVP.... MVP..... MVP!

As great a season as he had, I don't think that Bautista deserves to win it. If we're looking purely at offense, he's about even with Josh Hamilton and Miguel Cabrera. But as Hamilton also had considerably more defensive value than the other two, he should win it, even if his numbers (.390 BABIP!?) are pretty odd.

**** your asterisk.

WHy is Shin-Soo Choo 10th? Hit .300, 90 ribs, 20-20 guy. Nothing spectacular. Hamilton will probably win it.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Well it happens that he's the ONLY player in AL this season that put up the very numbers you stated. You have a problem with giving the guy 10th frickin place for that?
I know it's no biggie, but I feel obligated to defend a fellow countrymen

Re: No love for JBau on CNNSI
Jose, you are appreciated by at least one mainstream writer: Bill Simmons
He gets it, he really really gets it!
Two weeks ago, I posted the following tweet: "Whoa! 54 home runs for Jose Bautista. Tied for 19th all-time. Nobody from 1962 to 1996 hit that many. I'm still buying it. Like his swing."
ESPN's Jeff MacGregor noticed that tweet and turned it into a column. I loved his angle: He was saddened that a fellow writer felt obligated to let people know that he was "buying" Bautista, like this was some sort of controversial stance. And really, it shouldn't be. Watch this video of Bautista's home runs: no suspicious opposite-field cheapies, no lazy fly balls that kept carrying, just bomb after bomb cranked to left field. He's a dead-pull hitter blessed with quick hands. He blossomed later than most. I am still buying it.
He gets it, he really really gets it!

above average defence in right field? 401 OBP? One of the true well rounded hitters in our game, i don't know how anyone can object to him being in the top 10.

He continues to be one of the more underrated outfielders in the AL. Partly because he's on Cleveland, but if Choo had a better lineup around him, think his numbers would be even better.

Re: No love for JBau on CNNSI
I think Jays management would love for him not to win it, probably help make him a bit more affordable. As a fan of the game I want him to win it but for him to not win it probably a better scenario for us fans probably see him in a Jays uniform passed mid season next year.
Raptors, Leafs, Jays. #Toronto

From a business standpoint, I think the value of having an MVP on to promote the club to the city and the rest of the baseball world exceeds the few million extra they'd have to for Bautista.
