Simmons on the Spurs Training Camp Roster

Post#1 » by iDunk » Mon Sep 27, 2010 10:33 pm

Congrats Bobby Simmons to getting another opportunity in the league. He's actually a great 3 point shooter, that's it though.

in his days, he averaged a really good 3pts%, specially from the corner. He needs to be in shape and healthy..

Today was Media Day. Some things:
-Tony wants to stay in San Antonio
-Timmy is playing "'till the wheels fall off"
-Pop couldn't sleep for 2 nights after Brazil-Argentina's game in WC cause of Scola performance.
-George Hill said Splitter was a good 3pts shooter and Pop said he has never seen Tiago hit a 3..lol at George Hill knowledge of Tiago.
-Tim said that when he was a FA he thought of doing like LeBron "The Decision" show, but they laugh at him..lol

If Simmons can get in shape I think he's got a good shot at making this team. He's got size for a SF and he can shoot the ball.

Thanks for posting this. I got a good laugh. I don't doubt that Pop has had several sleepless nights over the Scola situation. He would've solved a lot of our problems over the past couple years.

I'm glad Timmy decided to keep his talents in Texas.

Didn't this guy win MIP like a couple years ago? Whatever happened to him?

From what i read, Simmons didn't play much in the Nets because of their policy to make young guys play. But aparently he worked his ass last season and he's willing to repeat that thing.
I think that if Simmons is in good shape and proves Pop he can adapt to the defensive system, he will get the back up SF spot.

He got injured, badly, when he was at the Bucks. He had a decent first season in Milwaukee, missed the entire next season with multiple foot injuries, came back the following season rusty as hell and has sucked ever since. It was a shame, he got a huge contract and essentially watched his prime from the sidelines. Still his foot injuries earned him my favorite nickname to come off the Bucks board, Lieutenant Dan.

When I first read the thread title, I thought it would be an article by Bill Simmons' giving his take on our training camp roster...

Second day of practice and they interviewed Splitter.
They were talking about getting used to the city, NBA, etc. and one journalist asked him: What about driving in the RIGHT side?
F*cking ignorant!!

I sure hope Simmons can get back to becoming his old days. If he can provide what he used to provide (shooting and decent defense) then that's exactly what we need from the backup SF position.

He also got a nice paycheck and didn't have motivation.

As mentioned by paul, Bobby's foot pretty much fell off. He lost every bit of his athleticism.

So? Don McLean once won MIP. No good improving for one season then sucking for the rest of a career.

And I clearly said that pointing out that he won the MIP then proceeded to suck is irrelevant.

Great risk, but only that. He would be a good backup for small forward, but unfortunately I don't think he'll make the final cut. Like a poor man's Richard Jefferson, without the athleticism... (doesn't sound all that flash haha)

Actually a decent 5 min player. Hopefully he'll be in shape and contribute some solid 15 min.
