What to do with Corey Brewer
I don't think its too far-fetched to say Brewer has been the worst Wolf this preseason. There have been varying opinions on what his role should be throughout the offseason. Have the first two lackluster performances changed anything?
Personally, I would prefer to trade him. His expiring contract should be valuable to someone. Either that, or he should be able to become a valuable contributor somewhere.

whats the point though, I don't want a big man taking minutes away from our guy, we get a PG and thats good for, what, like a month or w/e until Foye comes back, and frankly I'm totally cool w/ Telfair for the interim considering how fast he can move the ball up court. Rather let Brewer stick around for now, see what happens. Especially if somebody goes down or starts to suck

I'm not a huge Brewer booster. I don't think he can really improve much more, but these last two preseason games aren't a great reflection of who he is.

Two pre-season games. We need way more data before we make a decision on this. We aren't hurting for anything right. Lets assess our assets.

Re: What to do with Corey Brewer
When we added Wes Johnson, Webster, Hayward and then Beasley, we really made Corey Brewer obsolete. We invested in these guys, and we need to give them minutes to give the investments a chance to pay off.
Unfortunately, Corey Brewer doesn't have a lot of trade value. He's in the last year of his contract, and even as an RFA, we'd only have the rights to match an offer from someone else next year - something we may be unlikely to do. Other teams also know that if they wanted Brewer, they don't have to trade for him - they can just wait until next year. Brewer would have the most trade value on a team that is more win-now, and can get some value out of him now .. and perhaps would like him in the future, but may want to use an MLE elsewhere.
The Lakers fit the profile of a team that could benefit from getting Brewer this season, plus I think Fisher would rather have him on the team than playing against them. I think as a minimum, we could ask for
LAL GETS: Corey Brewer + Sebastian Telfair
MIN GETS: LAL 1st + $1 mil cap space + Sasha Vujacic + a little cash to buy Sasha out
Obviously it'd be nice to get a better offer, but this gets us a late pick, raises our cap space to $10 mil, and saves a little money. We could use a little cap space to get a vet-min PG if we wanted, although Laker fans say that Vujacic can play back-up PG, and Rambis might like the familiarity. Perhaps instead of cash we could ask for a prospect like Caracter or Ebanks.
Anyway, I'd start there, and then begin knocking on the doors of other contenders to see who'd be willing to offer more. Unfortunately, other teams have seen Brewer's performance this year as well, so I think we're a little slow on the trade talks.

I doubted Brewer something awful for the 1st two years he was here. Last year he looked like an NBA player. Let him play. If he ends up on the bench two months into the year, well, he ends up on the bench.

Re: What to do with Corey Brewer
I think we are in the perfect situation to wait a year with every player on our team not named Telfair/Ridnour. These young guys need a chance to just play. We will be a year better next simply from playing this year and a lot more able assess what our needs are. This isn't like last year in the rebuild, we are done tearing down. But it will still take awhile to build something back up. I liked how we looked today. Brewer was one of our most lively defenders and went strong to the hoop a couple of times. Lets not rush to move ANYONE especially for low end assets (is the 30th overall pick any better than the 32nd when you consider the guaranteed money?)
I love the idea of stockpiling assets and parlaying it into a big time player, but even with that plan of attack you have to develop the talent on the roster. I say we shouldn't be looking to trade almost any of our top 9 guys (again, Ridnour and Bassy can go).

However if we had needed to include Brewer in some kind of crazy inter-sport ridiculous trade to bring in Moss, I would have done it.

The problem with holding onto guys you don't have the minutes for is that their value declines. This is especially true for Brewer, because most teams can simply wait and sign him s a free-agent next year without giving up anything. I think we either need to play him or trade him, and I'd lean towards the latter.

Re: What to do with Corey Brewer
I'd be fine with trading him. I'm perfectly happy with Wayne as the 4th wing, and Lazar as the 5th. Trading Brewer frees up playing time for the remaining wings, gets something for him rather than just letting him walk for nothing later, and would probably be better for Brewer (getting traded to a team with some minutes for him).

Re: What to do with Corey Brewer
I totally understand what you mean and even more so you would hate to create a logjam when you could get value for some of your rotation players. Having said that, I am a believer that Corey could be a really solid player for us. I'm not ready to sign off on all of our other wings just because they are better shooters. I think Wes/Webster both have the chance to be better, but hasn't Corey already shown tremendous improvement in his young career? Who is to say he can't become that lock down defender who can hit a three ball (like a bruce bowen type)? And his value can't be that high right now anyways, he was a starter on a15 win team that was widely regarded as a bust until a year ago. Add some value due to his (small) expiring deal I guess.

If your all throwing Brewer under the bus, then Beas isn't far behind ...

Brewer would be amazing on the Lakers, likely better than Ariza was.

I wouldve loved to get Brewer to LA (Clippers) before we added Gomes.

What about a team like Houston? They are a team I could see being interested? Would they do Brewer for Hill? Would we? I know we have Tolliver, but I don't think it'd hurt to bring this guy in...

I could also envision Brewer and Koufus being packaged together.

Re: What to do with Corey Brewer
Wow, only 2 pre-season games and already we are debating what to do with Brewer and possibly trading him???
Yeah, his shot isint falling just yet - its only pre-season. I watched this mornings game live and in the 15 mins he was on the court, he played very well. He racked up 2 stls, 3 rebs, 1 ast, deflected several passes, attacked the hoop, had zero turnovers, shot 4-6 FTs, and missed just 2 jumpers and 2 tough drives. But he played with heart, unlike Beasley and Milicic. Do you really think hes going to shoot this bad for the entire year? Maybe hes putting pressure on himself to score more now that Webster and Wes are on the team. I can see him playing a 6th man role, but hes still also a capable starter.
Did you guys not notice that Love shot 4-16, Milicic 4-10 and Beasley 4-12? And also 14 TOs between them! I take my hat off to Webster and Wes, they were sensational off the bench, however Wes had 5 TOs. Ellington has done nothing in 2 games, so if anything, give Brewer his minutes.
I think if Webster or Wes gets the starting SG nod, Brewer is going to be just as valuable off the bench. Injuries do happen. We all know Brewer can put the ball in the hoop, and we know hes a better defender than Webster, Beasley and Ellington. Its just a matter of when and where he fits in. I still see him as a valuable piece to this rebuilding team.

Would of loved to get him on the Nets before signing Travis Outlaw to that heinous contract.
Brewer is still young, an expiring, and a much better defender than Outlaw. Brewer would of fit perfectly with the Nets.
