Value of Cody Rasmus?

Post#1 » by trellaine201 » Thu Oct 7, 2010 5:05 am

Multiple teams preparing offers to the Cardinals for Cody Rasmus ,24 yrs old. What would it take to obtain him? I would include Snider , a pitcher or two, maybe a catcher in the farm.

Thoughts?

its COLBY rasmus

I don't think STL has any interest in trading him but if they did....
Marcum + Stewart ?

Drabek + JPA ?

Will be extremely overpriced.

No way you think of giving up multiple pieces that have proven worth for a guy who at 24 became "disgruntled". I agree he has potential, but he has yet to prove that he will without a shadow of a doubt be any better than Snider as he is sold to be. So why in the world do you move Snider (who is younger) along with other pieces at this point anyway?

I still have a hard time if this deal was Snider for Rasmus straight up.

This isn't St. Louis pawning off Rasmus for scraps, they are expecting a bidding war. No thanks as far as I am concerned.

edit: Marcum + mid level prospect nothing more. It's St. Louis that needs to move him much like Atlanta pawned Yunel Escobar off.

JPA + Marcum + a prospect for Rasmus

Then we can bring in our younger starters and resign Buck until our other young C's develop.

I can't believe I'm hearing this. You guys would actually trade away our best starting pitcher this year PLUS prospects for a whiny & relatively unproven kid?

Rasmus has lots of potential and a pretty good season for somebody whos still as raw as he is to the game. But we seem to be going into the right direction, I wouldn't trade any of our starting 4 for him. I would rather offer one of our top farm pitchers if needed be (but just one). Snider is only 22 and I think would of hit for 20 homers and 40 rbi's if he was healthy, so I would keep him as well.

I would. As far as I am concerned, Marcum and JPA are expendable. Marcum is older than the rest of our starters, so his prime will not correspond with the rest of the staff. Besides, we have Drabek, Stewart and Zep ready to go, so someone has to be traded. Same with JPA. We can resign Buck, who will do better than JPA defensively/offensively for the next couple of years, then we wait for our C prospects. If you can get Rasmus for them, who is the same age/skill as Snider, then you have an outfield for ten years.

He's not unproven. He's a plus defender in CF, hit for 850 OPS in his 2nd season and has, what, 3 more years of contractual control?

I'd rather "settle" for Logan Morrison or someone like him. He's a top prospect himself but he doesn't have quite the value that Rasmus has--because of D--and wouldn't cost as much.

I'd give Snider and Perez or JPA/ D'Arnault and Steward for him.

Snider will or would be included in my opinion. It's too bad as I would love Wells to move to right field.

This. Not to mention, Marcum is a few years further along the development curve than the rest of our core and will peak earlier - he has more value to a contender in the short-term like the Cards.

The only issue I would have is what else to throw in. Marcum's solid, maybe a mid-level prospect at best.

I feel much better about the 2nd offer. If we can keep Snider, throw Rasmus in right until Wells' decline becomes more obvious, and move Bautista to third that fills a major need/hole.

From STL's perspective, it looks like they need a 2B/3B/RF who has high OBP (from the Strauss article).

How about: Bautista for Rasmus. This is a sell high for AA, STL wants him as they are competing now, and Bautista is nearly 30, so will peak before our other players.

Win-win. But St. L would want more.

Thats interesting mmmmmm St Louis has and is looking for someone with pop in their bat. I think they really missed that this year. But Rasmus has some pop so not sure this would work unless Jays added a player(s) .

Can they trade Bautista ? or do they need to offer arbitration first?

seems like a steap price..... I mean where would he play. Getting this guy could pretty much spell the end for Snider & Lewis. This guy is gonna demand a full time OF spot and there is no way we can move Wells or should move Bautista from RF.

plus it makes the Anthony Gose trade less significant..... as Brett Wallace could play 1B. We would have too little spots for too man OF players.... and im talking long term

If the Cardinals were to trade rasmus they would want a potential closer zach stewart and a bat... I would honestly do Bau and stewart for rasmus and low level prospect.... Or we could target alex gordon and andrew mccutchen
