Still upset over the Hayward pick?

Post#1 » by Sloanfeld » Thu Oct 7, 2010 1:49 am

All of the outrage over this pick seemed to have died down completely. Are you still upset or have you bought into the pick? I know nothing about college ball so I've never had an opinion.

I'm not completely sold on Hayward, but I am certainly not as pissed as I was. I wanna give him a chance to see what he can do. It seems he's working hard and that's a nice start.

Been a jazz fan a long time and the Hayward pick will go down as one of the worst picks of all time. There will be several players selected after 9 who will have much better careers. I watched every summer league game and although he shots free throws really well, he did not change my mind.

That's basically true of any player drafted around there, though.

I'm very happy with the Hayward pick. The night it happened, I thought, "What the ****?" But given the rest of the summer's acquisitions, and having seen him in summer league, I am wholeheartedly on-board.

No, I got over it in a few days, and got optimistic. It's not like anyone in the draft area right after him has stood out as a huge miss amongst all the previous GMs picks. It's still early, but it looks like the picks lined up in a very standard way. Plus, now, as opposed to then the wings is where the team needs improvement, as opposed to center or PF.

I am not sure that I fully like it but there is no reason to be upset about it still. There is nothing that can be done to change it.

Still disappointed, but okay with it. I think Paul George and Cole Aldrich are better prospects, but I think Hayward could develop into an 18/6/3 player who's efficient and plays decent defense.

Wow; you think Paul and Cole will have better careers than that?

It was a risky pick as KOC was basically looking at possible upside. He could be Larry Bird and he can be Luke Walton. I think Mike Dunleavy Jr. comparison about right but Hayward is much better alround player than Dunleavy will ever be. The John Stockton pick was not popular when made but ended up being the Jazz greatest pick ever. Hayward will be seen as one of the Jazz top 10 picks ever when his career is over!

I don't know how Hayward will turn out. I hope he's great.

But I know I wouldn't have picked Aldrich over him, just to say I went after a big man. Aldrich shows no more potential than he does, only time will tell for sure.

I was very pissed on draft night. Now I'm waiting to see him play with an open mind.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I did not like the pick at all, but its always hard to tell if a guy is going to succeed in the NBA. Waiting to see how he plays.

Denial - "Oh no they didn't!" :o
Anger - "WTF?" :curse:
Bargaining - "Maybe there is a trade brewing."

Depression - "OMG, they did." :(
Acceptance - "Well... he did pretty well in the summer league."

At first it was a WTF moment. Than I realized we couldn't have done any better. This draft is littered with busts and we avoided some of them and got a decent player out of it. But I still would have loved to trade up to get Cousins at #5. After that leading up to us was busts - #6 Udoh(no!), #7 Monroe(hellll no!), #8 Aminu(please god noooo!)

As far as I was concerned, at that position it was either Hayward or Patterson, so there really wasn't anything to be upset over considering that wing ended up being a position of need for the Jazz.

I would have preferred Babbitt or George, but am not wholly disappointed. I suppose it is still somewhat a wait and see. So for now I am not upset and will reserve judgment for a later date when there is more ability to form a suitable opinion.

I said could, not that I think the odds are in his favor for becoming that level of player (Though I'm really hoping for that). And I do think George and Aldrich could have better careers that that.

More disappointed that the bigs we wanted were off the board than that we drafted Hayward. Trading for Al took away that disappointment, and so I trust Jazz management made the right choice given the options available.

I got over it. Getting Al Jefferson helped. I really wanted Aldrich though, and seeing him go to the Thunder made the draft day that much worse.
