Patriots Trade Randy Moss to the Vikings for a 3rd rounder.

Reports are everywhere.

Looks like it's just a plain dump on our part and we'd only be getting a third round pick

It has to be Kraft, right? I mean lets go through a checklist

-Is Tom Brady upset with him? Obviously not.
-Is BB upset with him? Nope, don't think so.
-Is Moss making that much noise in the locker-room? I think we would have heard rumors of this locker room tension.

Fact is moss spoke out and Kraft's ego was hurt. Just like with vrabel, and just like its being reported with Mankins. Now we're giving him away for nothing.

Moss' outburst wasn't Patriot-like and he's been failing to catch too many good passes his way.

That said, no way I would like to see him traded for simply a future pick.

I am hoping that the Patriots just wanted to give Moss the ability to negotiate a hypothetical extension so that they and he could gauge his market value.

This seems like it will happen, hell if MINN is willing to give him an extension and we aren't and we let it get this far we can't get it in the way now, hell he would be a problem if he wasn't Randy Moss. He may have also asked for this and they said don't be a DB till the Bye and we will see what we can do.

This may be the team realizing that the situation isn't fair to Moss to begin with that if he is being phased out of the offense and we are going to send this guy into FA on a JAG season that is a crap move. I don't think I would move Moss for a 3rd rounder but if all of his balls are going to go to Tate, Hernandez, etc then we probably should move him if their is value there.

But damn deal for an outside linebacker not a draft pick.

It is just hard to accept I don't know if it is dumb. There is a damn good chance that situation with Moss would deteriorate anyhow and they know whether they had any thoughts on bringing him back. If he asked for a trade and they have no interest in giving him a new deal then dealing him isn't a terrible idea.

But you can't help but feel this whole bridge year thing creeping in which would be easier to accept if it wasn't a bridge to nowhere with the lockout looming.

If all this is is subtraction then it sucks whether they can survive it or not.

Barring something LEGIT comes out that states moss was a problem in the locker-room. I hope he has a hell of a career back in Minnesota, and I wish him the best.

But what about NE? Where does the offense go from here? I hope BB realizes how much a legit number 1 does for this offense, and goes and trades for Vincent Jackson. Especially when you have a **** of draft picks. But that's not going to happen.

The reason I don't mind this too much is...really just because in that Jets game, before the highlight reel TD catch there were like 5 solid passes thrown his way that he should've arguably caught. And that dropped TD pass vs the Dolphins...I almost got the sense that he was tanking to an extent, in fact I thought he was tanking during that NYJ game the one-handed TD grab was the only thing that made me question it. Of course he was still getting open and he was still opening up other parts of our offense and I would have still taken him on the field over, say, Terrell Owens. And I can't comment on the Bills game I didn't see it.

But I worry what happens to us when we don't replace Randy Moss, and/or perhaps we could have at least acquired some extra defensive help. And considering how things ended in '07-08, I feel like this trade is a premature admission that the Randy Moss signing didn't work out and his detractors were right all along...

Moss trade didn't work out? They were one defensive stop from being a perfect team. With the best season a reciever has ever seen. Moss did his job while he was here.

I understand building for the future and all, but a third round pick? For Randy goddamn Moss???? When Vincent Jackson was going for that and a young player (Asher Allen)??? Are you kidding me?......... Trust in Bill, Trust in Bill....

and now the reports come out on moss being very difficult this year....

Well, although he was being a pain, I still think it would have been better to just sign him before the season started. That's how much I feel this team needs a legit number 1 to have this offense work.

I want Vincent really bad. We only play once before the trade deadline. Maybe when the offense plays like crap and falls apart against Ravens D, BB will go ahead and let go of his tight grip on those draft picks and trade for vjax. I mean, it's not like you're going to use all of them anyway.

I think it was a good decision (acquiring Moss), I'm just saying that we never won a super bowl with him on the team, and there was at least one distracting issue in the week leading up to that superbowl. His detractors may have said 'for all he brings to the table we will never win a super bowl with this guy in the locker room,' or what not. All I'm getting at...

perspective from an MN fan:

As a lifelong Vikings fan, Randy was by far my favorite Viking (and Minnesota pro athlete) of all time. After the trade, I couldn't watch the Vikes for the next two years. I wanted to meet (former owner) Red McCombs and return the favor and kick him right in the nuts. It would have been kinda like you guys trading Tom Brady after he got hurt. There's just some players that should never be traded. For many a Vikings fan, Randy was that type of player.

So getting Randy back is a very big deal for many Minnesota fans. But while I'm obviously happy with the trade, it also opens up old wounds. Anybody happen to have Red's current mailing address?

Perhaps the quick emergence of Hernandez made Moss expendable. Throw in Wes, Tate, Edelman and even Gronkowski, it seems that Brady still has plenty of options in the passing game. Wishing I had Hernandez in fantasy football right now.

After a day of listening to all the talking heads and BS. I keep coming back to one thing Randy hasn't been very good since about the mid point of last season. When we went to him his completion percentage sucked and the last two weeks we haven't even been going his way.

He has been about half of what he used to be and you can make all the excuses for it you want to at some point that is simply what it is, when did he go games without catches, never mind even being thrown to. DB's are taking him out one on one and when he gets open he doesn't make the grab.

I don't buy Randy was a bad guy here he wasn't, he was great but since about week 12 last season he hasn't been much of a play maker. Sure he is in a pissing match Kraft but I don't think Bill would trade him over that, I think that Randy had a certain value and MINN was willing to match and Randy wanted more balls.

Trust in BB. He brought Moss in and understands what he can and can't do. I don't think this is like the Seymour deal where we were just offered insane value. He thought Moss was messing things up as much as helping and wanted to go in a different direction. Get ready for a ball control dink/dunk offense.. It's Brady strength and with these recievers I think it will be great.
