J Dilla wrote:One positive from Andrea: he was getting rebounds that I've never seen him get. I'm not too concerned about his offense, I was never concerned about his offense. Only consistency is the issue, but he'll be ok.

Amir was just disappointing. Nothing can happen now, he got PAID. He makes mistakes that players make fresh out of high school/college. I predict this is another bad contract BC will try to rid himself of.

I liked Weems, but he was forcing things a bit too much.

CACK was pretty solid tonight, wasn't too much involved offensively but I liked what I saw on the other end.

they need to play Banks.

DeRozan did alright.

Barbosa is trash, so far. Don't understand BCs attachment to this guy.

Klieza was smooth and efficient. No complains at all. If he keeps playing like this he'll be a perfect fit beside DeRozan.

Reggie is underrated in this board. He does a lot of things that don't show on the statsheet. I laffed he started the ass grabbing with Hill. That was jokes.

This

Im kinda liking both Dorsey and Evans now, the one knock I have on Reggie is his free throw is UGLY!
Weems also needs to calm down abit.

Kleiza was just awesome, didn't really force anything.

and for the ppl bashing Bargs, they need to eat it! He's actually looked better on the defensive end and I wouldn't be too worried about his offence it'll come to him.

I like your thinking about building assets and selling "high" on them. But why must I ask, would Klieza not see himself here long term? He disliked being a role player in Denver, to the point that he would rather take the money and be the man in Greece for a few years than continue to toil in the shadows.

He is very adamant about liking Toronto the city and the Raptors organization for giving him the role that he has now. Players genuinely like Brian Colangelo, and seem loyal to him - particularly ones that he aggressively scouts and builds up who might not be seeing that attention from other sources. Klieza can make a name for himself here this season, so why would he want to give that up to play off the bench and as a role player?

The same reason Matt Barnes wanted to come here? To build up his reputation. Aside from Toronto, his other options were LA, Boston and Miami. Coincidence? I think not. Dude wanted to put up some good numbers, and score a big contract next season on a contending team.

Individually, I liked Anderson. He is perfect as an insurance big in case one of our main guys go out. (Bargs, Amir, Davis and Dorsey)

Kleiza also stood out, but he is looking to prove himself. I dont see him planning on staying too long here. I liked what I saw from DeMar DeRozan. He is showing how good he can be, but needs to do it consistently.

Weems is showing he could be a good 2nd person off the bench.

Jose looked like he tried playing adequate d which I like. Offensively, we dont have any worries from the PG spot. Defensively, I dont think it will be like last year, but still not good enough.

Jack came in the way I was expecting him too.

Im still not sold on Bargnani though. He is the only player that dissapointed me tonight.

Im not sure if its just me, but Triano's coaching also looked a little bit better tonight. Proper usage of his time outs, good substituions (For the Most Part) and good sets coming out of time outs. (Players just didnt finish, but the potential was there)

i'm sorry, but where do posters like yourself come up with this kind of ****? this season hasn't even started and you know what's going to happen a year from now?

with your psychic powers rather than posting on a raptors board you should be out playing the **** lottery.

get real.

Well, like I said in my post, I DONT SEE HIM STAYING. If you disagree, so be it. Just dont be surprised when he is being a 3rd option on Orlando or Dallas within the next 2 seasons.

What does that mean? You think he's going to demand a trade next year if he does well this year? Or he'll void the rest of his contract at the end of this one and try to sign something more lucrative? Because we have him for three years. If he does well and doesn't ask to be traded, he's not going anywhere. Well, not unless we can swap him for someone better.

Linas looked smooth, mid-season form. Bargs was not, it could be nerves or just one of those nights. He's doing a lot better with rebounding. He's reacting better. DD needs to be the focus of offense. Weems was trying to do too much at the start, but settled in. I like the hustle from Dorsey and Evans. Watching Barbosa drive to the lane and passing everyone gave me a smile. The team played really good defensively and the offense came to them. Solid first pre-season game.

What? He was in that same situation in Denver behind Carmelo, Billups, and JR. He told the Denver management not to match so he could PLAY for us. Why would he then decide to leave here to be a 3rd option? To win a title? Denver was a contender before the whole Carmelo thing.

shut your pie hole. you are just a hater.

you can rag on him for a bad shooting game, but not for the way he crashed the boards and got his hands dirty.

He attacked the o-boards, which is what we've been waiting for for 4 god damn years, but he had what like 4/5 rebounds in 23 minutes?

Nothing spectacular. Solid, but unspectacular. Not good enough to overlook the terrible offence. Anyway, it's just preseason, he's bound to play better than this.

Anderson is strictly a match-up big. Against Phoenix, he'd play solid minutes. Against Orlando, he's serving Gatorade.

I will take this result with a grain of salt. Not sure who is responsible for Phoenix's preseason sched, but they most likely never played competitive ball. Back to backs to start the preseason is just plain rude.

With that said, we played well in spurts, had very good energy throughout and showed a peskiness on D that might effectively hide some of our short comings. Question is, can we provide that type of on the ball pressure for 82 games, night in night out? Most likely not, but hopefully we use systems that allow our young team to use their speed and quickness more so than relying on complex defensive schemes that get muddled up half the time.

Some thoughts:

- Whether its good or bad, you always know when Reggie is on the court. He looks trimmed down and ready to play. Hope he has a solid season and keeps the team in check.

- AB was horrific on both ends. Dazed on the boards and out of place on offense.
With that said, he plays solid man D and is very hard to drive on. I will pass true judgment on October 27

- Obviously Klieza is in game shape on all accounts. Unlike Hedo, he came to camp as a professional and is ready to show his worth. I wanted to see him post up a little more and judge how effective he can be down low. Anytime your 3 can back down his defender, along with a shot and ability to drive.......that's a complete offensive weapon. He looks great and believe he will be a starter for this team for the foreseeable future.

- Weems musta thought he was on fire before actually being on fire. Hopefully he understands were his success came from last season and tries to build off that, not go out and try and get his. To many off balance shots from questionable spots early on.

- Barbosa was quiet but to be expected. Still think he showed more promise than Hedo last night.

- Dorsey looks determined to stick with this club and play as well. Loved his toughness, aggressiveness and athleticism. On nights when we are getting blown out this season, I want to see Reggie and Dorsey out there laying lumber down. That is a tough front court.

- Anderson looks good. I think he offers a solid option at the 5 spot. Wont wow you, but can provide a consistency.

- PJ looked more like our coach and Jay the assistance. Like his intensity every time the camera was on him.

- Demar was ok, not great but ok. Relied on his shot to get him off, which is fine. Want to see him at the line more as his shot wont always be falling.

-Amir looks great except the 5 fouls in 16mins. He could easily be a double double every night if he could stay outa trouble. Noticed that many of the fouls he commits are when someone blows an assignment and allows someone a path to the basket. He will always commit the foul even if there is no chance of stopping the play. I hate to advocate not knocking someone down instead of a clear path to the basket, but if he wants to play he may have to take a pass on some of those.

All in all, nice way to start the preseason. I do expect a much different opponent on Sunday, a game that we probably wont be able to see. That will be a better measuring stick than last night.

Love to see we can play full court press now. That is a real tempo changer. I think this team has a solid 10 man rotation going for it. You could tell the team is much improved defensively and tougher orverall even if this was just a preseason game.

Just wanted to say a big thank-you to the fans in Vancouver who booed Turkoglu. It made me feel part of one nation. I have mixed feelings about booing players, but, in 20 years of watching professional sports, I have never seen the combination of laziness, disinterest, and arrogance that Turkoglu displayed last year. I went to 20 games last year and feel like he should give me some of my money back.

It should be pointed out that Kleiza played international ball this summer and, as the man himself said, he's basically in game shape and form already. He's been competing at a significant level since the summer.

The rest of this team hasn't played a game of consequence since like April, apart from some scattered summer league "basketball," though I use the term loosely because those games are useless.

Rust, sloppiness... it's the first seriously organized game this team, this specific roster, has ever played together. So negativity needs to GTFO, seriously. We all know we're gonna blow this year, but we're seeing some really strong signs that they're going to come out and go down fighting, which will make it tolerable and even entertaining.

Jose... looked like crap, but he competed internationally and then got injured, so it's not like he's at 100%. I liked that he looked at least remotely interested on defense and that he was making quick upcourt passes to facilitate the break, even if he wasn't himself pushing the ball with his dribble. In fact, the pass is faster than dribbling, so I was pleased. He wasn't nearly as effective as Jack on offense, of course; Jarrett looked great.

We'll see how much of this translates into our next game, and the next, and so on, but there were plenty of good signs that people should be enjoying, not bitching about.

I was thinking the same. It's not unusual for some player to start very strong after a summer of international play, it's not a rule tho. Some others needs rest, some others not, and for others it's absolutely irrelevant. If it was a rule, Leandinho would be beasting as well, but it's not.

BTW, absolutely LOL to anyone who's going mad about Bargs. Season number five, and you guys still don't know that he takes some time to get back in rhytm, expecially for his shot. This is why teams do preseason, you know...

Yeah that has to be taken into account. Will he slow down though? I remember, I think it was the year USA won the gold at the Olympics, a lot of the big names came back and tore it up in the first month and then slowed down because they' essentially been playing ball non-stop.

Well Kleiza played in Europe last year so I assume he played in a lot less games overall. And he doesn't have to get used to the NBA schedule either, he's already played it. I think he'll be fine.
