My Melo Trade
Wolves trade Beasley, Flynn, Brewer and picks from Jazz trade for Melo
Grizzlies trade Thabeet for Flynn
Nuggets get Beasley, Thabeet, Brewer and picks for Melo.
We don't trade any real valuable assets for Melo here: Beasley was almost free, Flynn is kind of a luxury with Luke on board and Ricky's possible arrival here next summer, Brewer looks like he's on a way out of here anyway. So even if Melo doesn't resign next summer we still have a good young core and only about 35 mill salary sheet which makes us the biggest player in FA market next summer.

Re: My Melo Trade
Why trade Flynn and Beasley if its 100% he's not going to resign here. Yes, it's 100%.
PLEASE no more Melo to the Wolves trades.

Denver could get more & I'm assuming Carmelo wouldn't leave Denver just to play for last years 15 win team.

Re: My Melo Trade
please dont post again. beasley and flynn for melo....come on man...dont let david kahn fool you, and don't ever expect Melo or any superstar in a wolves uniform. We need Rubio and a few other clowns to work out and then we can talk about a free agent, until then, let's enjoy the lottery.

Re: My Melo Trade
I think that's a decent package, and better than what the Nets are offering. Beasley uses Carmelo Anthony as a role model, and hopes to pattern some of his game off of him. I agree that Flynn will be expendable, and even likely to be traded by next summer (I wonder if we'd consider adding Thabeeet?)
Unfortunately, its impossible to determine his trade value. LeBron didn't get his full trade value back (TPE and token pick?) because the team has little leverage if a guy wants out, and they could lose him for nothing. With Melo having the right to decide if he's willing to sign a longterm deal with a new team (and most likely not MIN), he's got all the cards.
I've been wanting to ask Wolves fans though .. does the control the players are exhibiting worry you too? If great players would just say no to MIN and most other locations, does this mean we're going to end up with 4-5 contending cities, and then 25 annual also-rans?

I don't have any objection to players having more control over their own lives.

Re: My Melo Trade
The league seeks parity through the draft and through the CBA's spending restrictions, and I think the NBA needs parity for the health of the league and the health of the individual owners. The lottery system/draft is great, because its a superstar league, and the worst teams get potential superstars locked in for four years. However, players generally become true superstars only after they escape their rookie contract.
It seems to me under the current system, the only way for a bad team to actually become competitive is to be so freakin' compelling to your young talent that they decide to extend even though they'd have a better chance to win if they joined another superstar-laden team in a major market. OKC was able to do this with Durant, but when these players go for their second contract, it certainly seems like they don't stick around. I don't want to see MIN, and 24 or so other teams, simply become the Washington Generals of the NBA, with no hope in sight.
Its frustrating to see MIN work for all this trade value, and then hear "sorry, we don't accept your money in the Superstar Shop. Get out of Macy's, but you can buy all you want at Wal-Mart."

Re: My Melo Trade
By the way, my thinking lately is that there are only two ways for MIN to become one of these types of teams:
1. Get lucky in the draft, get a true potential superstar, and give him anything he wants to stay.
2. Make a trade to bring in two superstars simultaneously.
I firmly believe that with our young talent, picks, and cap space, we have the assets to bring in two superstars. Right now, that would look like Melo and Chris Paul, but its possible a new superstar may become available closer to the trade deadline. Even if we're not spending all our money now on additional minor production to win a few more games, I am not unhappy to see us sitting on $9 mil in cap space, so we are open to making a major trade this way.
I'm not a big Kahn fan, but I think he understands this, and has left the dorr open for both approaches.

Yep ... I'd say right now the inmates are running the assylum. Neither the NBA nor the players can allow this to continue without expecting a major fallout.
.... maybe the movement is towards a world league and they ony want 5-6 teams from the USA ...
As for Melo ... he's a chump.
Flip response to Love wanting out, "He has no reason to be upset, you're either a part of the problem or a part of the solution"

Re: My Melo Trade
Just to be goofy,
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=2epdavz
MIN GETS: Chris Paul + Carmelo Anthony
MIN GIVES: Rubio + Love + Flynn + Webster + Pekovic + Telfair + Koufos + UTA 1st + $8.4 mil cap space
DEN GIVES: Anthony
DEN GETS: Love + Webster + Telfair + UTA 1st + $6 mil cap space
NOH GIVES: Paul
NOH GETS: Rubio + Flynn + Pekovic + Brewer + Koufos + $2.4 mil cap space
WHY FOR MIN? With both stars, they may be likely to stay. MIN has to sign some vet min guys, but starts with:
Darko
Beasley/Tolliver
Melo
Wes Johnson/Hayward/Ellington
Paul/Ridnour
WHY FOR DEN: They get their young star-level big-man in Love, their pick, Webster's good and can play Melo minutes, and the cap space saves them $12 mil.
WHY FOR NOH: Rubio, Flynn, Pek and Koufos make them younger and more importantly cheaper. $2.4 mil in cap space ain't bad either.
Again, putting a price on guys like this is impossible, but I wanted to show MIN's got plenty of assets, even holding back Beasley and Wes Johnson.

Thats pretty sweet, actually. hate to give up Pek though. Might rather give up B-Easy than Pek if we're getting Melo.

Keep Pek + Webster, and send Beasley. Then it's amazing.
