Now, about the Nuggets. I went to the intrasquad game in Broomfield the other night and was very impressed. I told Masai Ujiri and Josh Kroenke, the new kingpins of the Nuggets, "You take this team and add K-Mart and Birdman, and you're better than you were two years ago. But you've got to have that guy sitting over there."

That guy was No. 15, Melo. J.R. Smith, Ty Lawson, Al Harrington and Chris Andersen coming off the bench are stronger than an on-time rent check. Talk about energy, offense and a new, improved Lawson. I talked to both Andersen and Martin. They're both antsy, but are doing the right thing. The Nuggets need them after Christmas, down the stretch and in the playoffs, not now, not at the beginning of the season......

I just want to see Kenyon fulfill a role. I see him as a low-post Robert Horry in the sense he could seal a game just appearing for a few minutes at a time as needed and pile on as many rings as he wants so long as he knows he can now fit that role to a t.

As with all in life, don't try to do too much. We know he's not going to go 30 mpg all season and have gas left in the tank/knee as it were.

It really is as simple as that. Balkman is tired of sitting, tired of being injured and tired of others pointing out what he needs to do. This time he's just doing it. He is the Nuggets' hustle man, a player who won over the hearts of fans with relentless play on the court two years ago, then disappeared as fast as he had burst onto the scene.

"Renaldo has been very professional, very good about his attitude and his approach," Karl said. "It's refreshing to see that he's made that adjustment. Two years ago he was a factor in our games. Why we never got to that last year, it might be the coach, might be the player, might have been both."

I was really excited about getting Balk. Sadly, I've given up on him about 2 years ago. Hopefully he gets with the program. If not, I'm sure we won't miss him if he's tucked into the Melo deal somehow.
