Who's keen to get this board pumping??

Post#1 » by Coxy » Fri Oct 8, 2010 8:04 am

Is anybody else keen to get this board pumping?? Any reason why it isn't?

The season has just started and I've come to talk all things hockey, but it looks like this place is a ghost town right now.

If anyone else is keen, we should put our heads together and get this place pumping. Post here peoples.....

Also, Khabibulin went nuclear on Calgary today. Was vintage.

This place is a ghost town all the time.

This place saddens me. I think RealGM hasn't really done a good job of advertising the NFL, MLB and NHL forums when they were first created. If people know about this place, they think it's strictly basketball.

Yep. All the other sports are a major afterthought. But the mods on each basketball forum should at least tell people that this place exists. The Raps forum does it all the time with Jays and they get more traffic there than this place and the Leafs board combined.

The Bucks forum was really great about this when they first put in baseball, football and hockey boards. Every thread about the Brewers or Packers on the Bucks was locked with a link to the new boards. You had no choice but to post on them.

Going back to 2007 I can remember basketball boards having topics about all the other sports and they still do now. The Knicks board I know has baseball and football topics and stuff.

one of the reasons this board isn't popular is that there is really only 1 thread at a time, and that is the game thread. People have tried to come in here and start threads, only to have them be shut down. How can something be expected to grow if it is restricted to the few discussion threads set up?

I put up a thread for yesterdays game. Being a mod has nothing to do with that.

Having a small group lowers the potential on pointless threads and discussion at least. But I mostly feel that way because I was previously reading through the General NBA board before this post.

You mean all those threads about great places to buy jerseys at low prices? Great discussion potential there.

Well, it seems there are a few around here anyway. I wonder why they have stopped trying to get it going.

Of course those should be shut down, but there have been others shut down simply in favor of having the "offseason thread," the "game thread," and other large thread categories. Large threads basically promote one thing, and that is for fan of x team to simply give their reports of the last nights game, and little discussion is generated from it, whereas individual threads are more productive in creating a sustained and focussed conversation that isn't interrupted by other ideas.

I think it would make sense in the very least during the playoffs to have a thread open for each series.

We can certainly try that, but we've never had the traffic to keep eight threads going for the first round.

I will do my annual Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs thread, though. You take that away from me and I'll Keith Ballard you in the skull.

"Saddens Me"

Really? I too would like more people to post, but I friggen love this board. A smaller group of good posters talking about hockey >>>>>>>>> NBA General Board.

But that's just my opinion.

Yeah there are actually a decent group of guys who post here...its just more of a tight nit thing. Like Celtics_Champs said, more does not necessarily equal better.

But if we could get some more knowledgeable and passionate fans here that would be excellent

Yeah wish there were more fans posting on this board but that wont happen. Like the previous poster stated when people think of realgm they think Basketball and that's about it. BBALL is my favorite sport but Hockey comes 2nd and it saddens me that I'm like the only person posting on the Coyotes board. :(
