People may not believe your story, but the general point that Jefferson is having trouble adjusting is probably valid. Like others have mentions the jazz system is complex and if you are coming from a losing team that wasn't well coached (no offense, Twolves fans), its just going to exacerbate the situation.

O noez, he sounds livid.
Seriously, I don't think Deron is going to be too freaked after a week of practice.

Jefferson has skills no doubt. He needs time to learn the system. Surely they are running Boozer's stuff through Millsap because he has been here for years now and knows the system. I'm sure they are going to start simple with Jefferson and expand the options the more comfortable he gets. This is why they do the pre-season and he has only played in 1 pre-season game so far. If Deron is all bent out of shape already he is in for a long season. lol

Better get with it, or get out!
Not in Utah Jazz Basketball! Still takes five guys, and there are better ways of influencing than threats or fear. Those only have short term affects, but are detrimental in the long run.
Yeah. It didnt work for Michael Jordan, or for Kobe Bryant, or for Karl Malone. What a bunch of clowns. Take your leadership advice from Finnegan and get on a team that's led by a cream puff. At least when they lose, everybody feels good!

If it were five years ago, Al being a little slow picking up the system would have been worrisome. In his old age, Sloan really has learned to adapt his flex to his players rather than forcing the issue making his players run a lot of options they aren't good at. Brains is probably not one of Al's strong suits, and from the look of it, Sloan is keeping it real simple for Al to begin with.
Al's still going to screw up from time to time, but it won't be nearly as costly as with a younger Sloan. Bottom line is, the Jazz starters crushed the Blazers starters, whether the points were coming from Millsap or Jefferson I could barely care less. Far more worrisome was the bench play. They look positively lost out there on offense without Kirilenko/Millsap/Korver and the bench defense was atrocious.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Spoken like a true leader with lots of theories, but no real world experience. This take the Bull by the horns and "force your will upon them" management theory is baloney.
Al Jefferson is what he is. He has strengths and weaknesses, just like everyone else. You take his strengths and exploit them, and at the same time develop his weaknesses. It is in Deron's interest for Al to adjust, and I believe that he is mature enough to understand that it takes time.
John Stockton was no cream puff. And you clearly have no idea how Jordan, Kobe, or Malone became persons of influence with their teamates.
True leaders lead by example, patience, respect... Sure they may get a little excited during a game, but the players listen because the relationship was developed long before then.

LOL have you even watched Kobe play? Curt Schilling went off on Kobe in the papers for yelling at his teammates during the Finals. Did you ever read "The Jordan Rules?" Read that book, it will reveal to you tons about Jordan's leadership.
And its real funny to listen to you argue against this style of leadership, seeing how you are a huge Sloan homer. Sloan is the embodiment of this type of leadership. Although in his old age he seems to have tapered it a bit and been content to let Deron be the ass-kicker....

Maybe it is a difference of semantics.
To be precise, are you suggesting that it would be productive for Deron go and lecture Al about being a slow learner, or getting pissed at him in a game during the preseason because he makes a mistake?
Here is the key:
1) When someone is acting out of fear or ignorance you mentor. When some acts out of laziness or stubborness you punish.
2) Three out of every four of your interactions with a person should be positive.

I wont argue with that.
Interesting story. I know an LDS bishop named Paul Ruffner who played on the Chicago Bulls with Jerry Sloan. He was a 6'10 center. He told me that Jerry Sloan once punched him in the face after his first practice as a rookie. Sloan told him he'd get one everytime he saw Ruffner not give 100% in practice. They didnt speak for the rest of his rookie season. Later, they were friends.

I remember Ruffner and many probably remember his son who played at the Y - he (the son) was a good player who left school after theft charges were filed on him.

Al is slow, but he'll be just fine. Remember, we have AK!

It's Al Jefferson; it's a basketball player widely considered and well documented as a beast down low.
Jazz sets will be instilled in him properly; no reason to think otherwise...
Nobody needs AJ to be the John Nash of the NBA...
