Future NBA baller wonders if he will get in the Raptors

Post#1 » by hamworld05 » Sat Oct 9, 2010 9:17 pm

How come a Canadian has never been on the Raptors? Is it because the ballers in Canada are not good enough?

I am starting to wonder if I should just plan to get on an nba team then request to sign a new contract with Toronto.

When Denham Brown was draft eligible, most sites had us drafting him with our second round pick. BC didnt pick him though and there hasnt really been a viable Canadian prospect since.

What if I become a viable Canadian prospect? Would the Raptors pick me as swiftly as I decided to try and get drafted by them?

No, because that would be silly. The Raps don't draft on nationality. Well, at least not North American nationality. Become Italian and change your name to Andrea Bargnanier and you got a shot.

Why do the Raptors draft the way they do?

No team, the Raptors included, will pick you because of where you're from. You need to be (a) incredibly talented, and (b) the right fit.

Well the players don't really get to choose where they go, so it's not any more likely that a Canadian player will go to the Raptors than any other team.

So it's all simple probability... right now there are 5 Canadian players in the league and 30 teams. There have only been 20 Canadian players in the league since the ABA merger in 1976, and the Raptors have only been around been around since 1995. The fact that the Raptors have never had a Canadian player doesn't exactly defy the odds.

I am starting to wonder if I should just plan to get on an nba team then request to sign a new contract with Toronto.

Good call. In fact, we should all just plan to get on an NBA team. Shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah its a US congressman who is a big Batman fan. I forgot his name.

OP the Raptors draft the best player available. That should be obvious after the Raptors drafted Ed Davis

Yeah, you guys are right. I was just trying to remember actors from that movie, but I guess his butler never talked to the Joker, haha.

I'd feel bad about this going off-topic if it wasn't so lol to begin with.
