But business has no place at a shrine, so instead I'll make an offering. Gil, it's a new season, so I'll unblock your big supporter Krizko, who seems to have made a similar offering earlier in the thread. Since half the time I post here I'm not logged in and thus can read all posts anyway, this is largely ceremonial, but here's to you #9.

Inasmuch as I have an image at all, it may be as an Arenas hater, but really I am not. I've never believed I'm in a position to judge him morally, and I have nothing more to say about the gun incident now that he's received his punishment. My posts about how he should be punished and where he figures into our long term plans were and are strictly business.

I was out of town but intended to post this exact thing (or The Official Gilbert Arenas Appreciation Thread) upon return. Nice to have pine back, picking up the slack.

""the truth is in life everyone will hurt you, u just have to find the ones worth suffering for" -- Bob Marley
I can't think where I saw this in the last couple of days, it may be someone's signature here for all I remember. But I thought of Gil immediately. Gil has hurt us sometimes -- with the gun incident, the crap about wanting to drop 50 on all of the Olympic coaches after he got cut/injured, the times when I wondered if the show was becoming more important than the outcome. But he was and is worth it to me. His personality, his apparent genuine caring for other people(I live in KY, don't have any first hand stories), and the absolutely amazing basketball. He is still my favorite sports figure of anybody I've rooted for. But maybe the quote works for him even better. After all of the suffering he's gone through, he's figuring out right now who and what in his life is worth risking getting hurt again.
Gil - just don't confuse the media, especially people like Vecsey and Wilbon, with your real fans. There are those who have left you, but right here posting are dozens of people who care about you, and accept you, and desperately want to root for you again. And for each poster there are thousands that think the same thing. I hope you think we're worth staying with the Wizards for.

Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

The media is still piling on him. Ted has done his best over and over again to show that the franchise plans on reconnecting with Gilbert and making him a part of the future. Yet these mediots want to create something out of nothing.

The media is the media. They follow. They don't lead. And they blow things out of proportion both to high and to low. Hey, they were all on the EJ ride when we were winning. He was the best coach ever. I don't here that anymore. It the media. They are an echo chamber. No truth seekers. They create drama. They see that as their business.
Once Gil gets it going, they will be all about that also. This is why it is best to not go on their ride as a fan or as a player. I think that is what Gil is trying to work out. He is just trying to keep it level this time. When they say there is no hope. There is. When they say things are great, just keep it ok. When they say it sucks, you say we will rebound. That is how you deal with the media.
I try to just look at what I can see as the facts.
With Gil, I didn't go on the Hibatchi or Agent Zero ride. I worried where it looked to me like the blogging, prediction, big three things would lead. I worried because I wanted the best Wizards team and the best Gil teammate and that is what i still want.
So as a fan of the Wizards, I like the possibilities of this team as constructed and with Gil returning. As I posted in another thread, Wall may be the face, but Dray and Gil still need to be core to what makes this thing move. They can be and they should be. They should still be stars here.
They only thing I see that has changed is Gil doesn't need to try to do it all every game. He can still go off for 30-35 pts some games. But if he gets 12-15 and we win, no biggy. So thats that and there is less pressure to be the media darling. When your are not the face of the team, you have more leeway. The media is only all over this because it is a story. Thats to be expected. Once be start to shin it will still be a story. Once he does it over time, it won't be such a story.
Look, everyone doesn't have to be a LaVar. There are lots of talented pro players who get normal attention and are still big names. They don't live for or in the media. Brain O is a star in DC but I don't see him all over the media. Next step up is like a Cooley. He is in the media but he doesn't seem to get to caught up in it. This town loves Cooley. It can be done.
I believe Gil will have great games. As for the 25pts a night. Save it for the playoffs Gil. That is when this team is going to need to lean on him and Dray more.
Not a shrine-worthy post, IMO.
Well done, Pine! Great to have you back. I have Gil's back, and plan on bringing some loud and proud TV-worthy signage to that effect the opener.
Accurate is more important then group think.

What part about "shrine" is so hard to understand? You don't like Gilbert Arenas, I get it, that still doesn't mean you have to act like a douche in a sacred place of worship.

If you say I don't like Gilbert, you don't read much here.
But when he acts up, I don't ignore it.
As for this year, I was for keeping him all along. As for him staying LT, I'm not sold that isn't a good idea.
As for the media, I said they follow, not lead. They will follow him back up soon enough.
As for this year, I think he will be balling.
As for who's team it is, I have been saying it isnt all Wall. It is Gil and Dray also.
As for his recent article, I said give the dude some time to adjust.
As for his first home coming, I said he will be cheered and that will heal a tone.
So don't make it like I'll not valuing and pulling for Gil or don't like him. I just don't thing that he wasn't a player in all that happened. He played a roll. That said, it time to move forward. I totally support Gil being here and thing is will be exciting to watch again. A actually think he will be more balance, more D and better then the past Gil. In total in a team concept.

Hands, the [Player's Name Shrine] is not for reasoned discussion and evaluation. The Shrine is for flat-out, over the top manlove for a player. There are plenty of threads for the very valid points you make. This isn't it.
That said, I was on the Agent Zero bandwagon and will be sorry to see the fun public side of that go. He'll still be drilling it at the ends of quarters from the halfcourt circle--Wall will get it to him--but without saying "Hibachi" it'll lose a little bit.

Re: The Official Gilbert Arenas Shrine
Can we re-title this: "FEAR the BEARD -- The official Gilbert Arenas Appreciation Thread" . That will clarify things I think.
(Credit severn hoos I think for the phrase, I forget).
I was outta town so I'm just catching up on a week or so of Wiz media.
Wilbon is a turd. Mr Me-Too. Way to jump to the head of the line and act like you been there all along dick. He now seems to know little to nothing about the NBA, beyond name dropping what NBA star rubbed up on him. He's caught Tony-itus, where he seems genuinely proud of his ignorance, doing no actual reporting, believing his status as a TV celeb is sufficient to make his opinion matter. Difference between TK and Wilbon is that Tony's caustic sarcastic act is occasionally still funny (on radio) where Wilborn's only hole card to to pretend to be unimpressed with everything. 'That doesn't surprise me.'
Officially done with him.

But isn't that unabashed manlove, shrine modality and his unmanageable public side complicit in what happened with him and how we got here. I'll be most happy to watch Gil balling and my team winning and Gil happy and mentally and emotionally healing. If that means he needs to protect himself by holding back from saying whatever comes to his mind to the media, I will gladly support that modality. Actually, I think history proves that is the preferable and smarter path. How you manage your PR matters. There are plenty of examples of what works and what doesn't. Humility is key. So is staying focused on team, not I.
I didn't realize you'll were going to be so serious about this shrine idea. I thought this was an appreciation thread like we usually do.

It says "Official" up there. The Official Shrine. Do you go to a Church and start trying to rationalize its validity with devout followers? Why would you go to the worship place of Gilbert Arenas and start saying what you are?
How hard is it to understand?

OfficialDude, stop taking all this so serious. This is not a church. It's an internet fan bulletin board.

Sarcasm and making fun of your stupidity is apparently too hard for you to comprehend. By making my post serious, I was making fun of you for being the OFFICIAL thread Nazi of the Wizards board. Whichever thread you don't like, you come in complaining about it.
Besides the fact that you are the king of starting ridiculous threads, you love to ridicule others for theirs. Hypocrite.
Before this thread gets derailed, I'm out of here. All Hail Gilbert.

Gotta love Gil. I'm so anxious to see him go full speed, and so hopeful for him to succeed that I'm nervous for the season. But if/when he does make it back, it will be fun to shut up the "pundits." Of course, those same pundits will claim that they knew he had it in him all along....

Did I come in and say the thread was stupid ? No
I just posted in it about the media following, etc.
I think it was others that were being thread Nazis telling me my post wasn't Shrine Worthy.
Look, I don't know what hard on your have for me but get over it.
Actually, contrary to what you say, I don't start a lot of useless threads.
I don't start thread just to have them locked like some because they seek the bad child attention.
I don't post a lot of IBTL crap.
From time to time I do like lots of other do and say, isn't there already a thread for this. That is something you'll set as the expectation. I'm just going with the program.
As for your name calling. It speaks for itself and doesn't deserve a reply. It says more about you then any name calling I could do back.

Did you guys seriously just waste a page and a half arguing about whether or not a certain post belongs in the Gilbert Official Shrine thread?
"Blah blah blah Gilbert fan worship is bad, it's why he got into so much trouble in the first place..." "blah blah blah this is the Gilbert shrine doofus"
"blah blah blah don't call me a doofus"
"blah blah blah then quit being a doofus"
"blah blah blah three pages of blah blah blah"
OK WE GOT IT TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE NOW PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
