Head Coach Possibilities
Just wanted to get some ideas on who could possibly replace Mike McCarthy if he is fired.
I would think Bill Cowher is a realistic possibility. His relationship with Dom Capers is probably good, as Capers was Cowher's DC in Pittsburgh. I am sure Cowher and LB coach Kevin Greene are friends.
It's probably a longshot, but what about demoting McCarthy to OC, and bringing in Cowher to Head Coach.
HC: Bill Cowher
OC: Mike McCarthy
DC: Dom Capers
That would be pretty sweet.

Cowher always seems to be gushing about us on the CBS pregame show. In Week 1 he picked us as Super Bowl Champs, and today he gushed about Woodson being the best CB in the NFL.

Re: Head Coach Possibilities
I don't think McCarthy is even on the hot seat at the moment, but I would love to get Cowher. MM would never accept a demotion with the Packers, in fact I could see him finding another head coaching job.

As much as I love Cowher, I wonder if he would be the guy for Rodgers to flourish under....

Re: Head Coach Possibilities
Gruden or Cohwer.
I think Cowher is the better coach between the two but I think Gruden would be a better fit for THIS team.

Cohwer since he knows how to win and knows you need to pound the ball. Ill take Gruden as OC.

Yeah MM and TT have literally zero risk of losing their jobs. They would need a couple of terrible seasons to be fired. Murphy is not firing either one.

I can't envision Murphy ever telling Ted that he has to fire a head coach unless it was over a character/off the field issue, how long MM stays the head coach is in the hands of Thompson and Ted is the king of not making rash decisions.

He's not stupid and he watches today's football, i'm sure he'd clearly understand that if you're blessed with a franchise QB, you use him.
Not that Ted will fire McCarthy even if we miss the playoffs, but for pretend let's say we finished 8-8, missed the playoffs, and TT decided to can McCarthy. Out of work coaches would line up for this job, including so high profile ones.
One thing that will keep in demand ex-coaches from accepting a job is a bad situation at QB because they realize it can sometimes take years to find even just a decent QB and you can't win big in today's NFL without a quality QB. Rodgers would be a big time magnet for coaches looking for a job. Mix in Clay and Finley, Green Bay would be a fabulous situation to take over compared to the sad shape many teams are in when they fire the coach.
Oh well, my guess is Ted will stick with McCarthy unless we have some 4-12 or 5-11 type of season over the next 2-3 years, which isn't likely. They'll either win a ring together or be a 7-8 year tease together of high expectations, but very few actual results besides regular season wins.

Re: Head Coach Possibilities
I always loved Gruden as coach but i think he is having too much fun on Monday Night Football so I would think it would take a lot of cash to get him.
But unless the packers literally lose the rest of their games this season, no one is getting fired.

I think a new HC is just going to set this team back a while. We need a new OC and get MM to get an influx of new ideas from him. I know that would never happen though.

Re: Head Coach Possibilities
MM will always want to be his own OC. McCarthy comes up with the game plan and calls the plays. I don't know exactly what our current OC (Joe Philbin ) even does.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Head Coach Possibilities
If we miss the playoffs, I'm sure Thompson will use injuries as an excuse and MM will save his job meaning this year will be a total disaster.

Re: Head Coach Possibilities
Sherman won 9, 12, 12, 10 and 10 games before going 4-12 in 2005. That team also had injury problems (Walker, Ferguson, Green and 3 other RB's). Certainly not to the extent this years team has but they still had a lot of injuries. They started 0-4 but 3 of those losses were by a total of 6 points. They had 2 other 3 point losses and a 5 point loss. And despite 5 winning seasons before 2005, Thompson fired Sherman.

One thing to keep in mind is that Sherman wasn't TT's guy.
