Everyone knew within ten seconds of the Hiney trade that we were going to have Hauptman Hinerich aka. Captain Kirk. I could have seen having a third captain in there, but even then I doubt it would have been Gil. Maybe I'm wrong based on Butler and Jamison's tenure, but my understanding is Captains are also ultra accessible for media and fan relations. lengthy postgame interviews after a tough loss and so on.

Does Gil's ETO fall after the 2011-2012 season?
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

That's how it would work to my understanding. It would be summer of 2012 when he could axe the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons on the deal. The Wizards and Gil could also discuss all that internally without it being tampering too.

I have a pair of tickets for the game tonight that I can't use. Free to a good home. Section 433 (one off center court), Row G. I can email them.
I guess we exchange personal info by PMing one of the mods?

There's no way Gilbert leaves money on the table. Barring a trade, he's here for at least 4 more years.
Also, I agree with Flip's decision on not making Gil a captain. The last thing you want is to name someone who had been suspended 50 games for guns as your captain.

Arenas is slated to earn $17.7M, $19.3M, $20.8M and $22.3M in the next 4 years respectively. The team is projected to have something in the neighborhood of $13-18M in cap room in 2012. (There are a lot of variables here.)
It's not out of the real of possibility that Arenas exchanges his last two years of his contract (worth $43M) for a 4-year contract worth, say, $63M. That could free up another $7M in 2012 cap room so we could land Dwight Howard. A core lineup of Arenas, Wall, Blatche and Howard, with McGee off the bench would be ridiculous. (We'd also have Booker, Seraphin, 2011 pick and 2012 pick under contract.)

Yeah, the ETO wouldn't mean that Gil was leaving and sacrificing money - it would mean that he would be getting an extension that accounted for the $43 million over two years but then tacked on some market value years on the end, except that it then just mish-mashed all that money together to make it cheaper in the short term. Not unlike the Richard Jefferson deal this last summer, but just on a grander scale.

Not even sure this team so young needs Captains.
Flip and Sam are the captains.
I can see as the season gets going that eventually you have. Kirk, Gil, Wall and Dray
But why have captains on a team like this.
Politics being what they are, I would rather not have captains. This isn't like football where there is a coin toss.

Didn't Wade, Bosh and LeBron all leave money on the table.
Isn't this the new standard for building a dream team ?
Isn't going for the money at all cost what got KG stuck on a looser. Has that stuck a lot of players. Wasn't that AJs ultimate doom ?
Really can players be all about the money and be all about a winning team. Most players who really wants to win it all aren't all about the money.
17.7 this year isn't a killer. Sure I would rather see it at 15M Where it gets out of had is next year, and after and after. 22.3 is some serious cake.

^ Needless to say, Hands, if GIl agrees to leave money on the table, that would just be even better, but the main idea is that he doesn't necessarily need to do that for it to work, which just makes it more realistic. At this point, nobody really knows how that would fit in with future salary structure, but it's worth noting.
As to Captain's, well, I guess I'm just a traditionalist. If Blatche could get a Captain rank, that would be fantastic and a great sign.
In other news --> anybody seen this from the Flipper?

It's a good article in general covering a number of angles, so I'd suggest ery'body hit the link and take a gander.

“I think this year’s team is definitely a team that doesn’t feel entitlement,” the coach said. “[They are] more receptive, or more trusting right now. When you have a young team and you’re going through and you’re learning, a lot of times you don’t have to break bad habits. You can teach them how it really has to be done. I think we’ve got a lot of young guys that are like that … that are very committed to trying to be as good as they can be.”
“I think last year, those guys … they would run what we wanted to run, but there’s a difference … we’re moving the ball more. The ball doesn’t stick as much. If it’s going to stick, it sticks in your point guard’s hand because he’s the guy that’s going to make the decisions.”

Don't forget that Arenas already gave up money once, when he signed for $111 instead of $128. I've seen people scoff at this gesture many times over the year, because they seem to think that because he's still not worth the lower amount, the move was somehow invalid, but dude, $17 left on the table is still $17 left on the table. I think the idea of he and us pulling a Richard Jefferson and the Spurs with his ETO is very plausible.

I think poor drafting, the Joe Smith debacle and some odd trades were what did the Twolves in.
Twolves 1sts:
1996 - Marbury( trade Ray Allen for him)
1997 - Paul Grant
1998 - Rasho Nesterovic
1999 - Wally Szcerbiak
1999 - William Avery
2000-2002(none) - I think these were lost in the Joe Smith debacle
2003 - Ndudi Ebi
2004 - none
2005 - McCants
2006 - Foye(traded Roy for him)
2007 - Corey Brewer

AJ didn't win a championship, but they lost to the eventual EC champs. He is probably stuck on the rebuilding Cavs for this season. His paycheck is part of the reason, but I think his preference fro starting is a significant factor too.

^ Frak, my browser is right properly busted and isn't listing the correct URL for me to snip (every page is supposedly the Post's Wiz page right now - go figure). I actually can't link to the article, but you can find it off of the Bullet's forever front page.

Re: Wiz 2010 Training Camp Sept 28th - 3-1 MIL OCT 14th
Moving forward is what I say.
Flip handled it well.
Gil messed up, again ,,, by lying to the HC about an injury. His heart was in the right place, just not a lot brain power going on there. I guess the whole idea that fans may have paid money to see him wasn't on his mind or the idea that Flip is the HC and Ted is paying his check to play. Well, now it looks like Gil is paying for that vacation day out of his own pocket.
3 more pre-season games. Lots of players to evaluate.
This where it starts getting really interesting. Good so far, but who stays. What will our team look like regarding roster ? Do we make any more moves.
Should be a fun season and an interesting trade deadline.
GO WIZ.
