And why is Yi's shrine bigger than Gil's? I like Yi, overall, but Gil PUSHED THIS TEAM INTO THE PLAYOFFS, something no one else on this team has done for us (as of this moment).

Here's one for Gil! Hip hip horay!

Thats my boy. He starts playing a little more assertive and the fun is coming back. You still want him to be serious and a leader but you always have to be yourself or you will never ever play up to the best of your abilities. Usually I could care less about a beard or how a guy expresses himself but you could tell this one was more of a "Im going to play the depressed sad guy role" type beard and that is not him. He's going to be more jovial and he's going to be ready for the season big time.

----------------------------------------

Nick Young predicted it, Brendan Haywood requested it, and Gilbert Arenas finally confirmed it: The beard is on its way out. That scraggly, unkempt facial hair, which has been the subject of much discussion, will soon be a thing of the past.

Arenas walked up the stairs after practice on Monday and Wizards owner Ted Leonsis was waiting to greet him with a hug and a smile. Leonsis made a comment about Arenas's beard. Arenas grinned and said, "I'm cutting it. I'm cutting it."

Leonsis, who sports a goatee, then rubbed his chin and asked Arenas if he would at least keep the goatee. "Like me?" Leonsis said, then lowered his head and raised his right fist in the air as if he was staging some protest. "You know, for solidarity."

Arenas laughed as he traded some shaving advice with Leonsis, then rubbed his beard some more and said, "I'm cutting it. This was a preseason look."
Arenas walked away, without saying when the beard would meet the shears. But Young was probably right when he said, "I don't think he's going to get used to walking around looking like that."

Good. The Baron Davis look was him. Cutting that thing should give him and extra inch of lift.

Did Gil "fake his injury" for NY, or is his knee really sore?

Maybe with the shaved bear, old Gil really IS back lol.

BTW, read Michael Lee's twitter for the "update" about Gil's "faked" injury.

Gilbert Arenas said he sat out for Nick Young: "I told him I'd go ahead & fake an injury or say something is wrong with me so you can start"

Don't really know what to make of this.

But this is the shrine.

Arenas didn't miss a shot in tonight's game. Not one.

Arenas was there and warming up with the team, he was definitely fine.....coach was probably just giving him the night off and he decided to have fun with the "faking injury for NY"

Arenas = GOD

Good. I'm glad to see the old Gil starting to re-emerge.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Following the game, Arenas told reporters it was all a ruse in order to give Young the opportunity for more playing time.

"I know he's kind of frustrated he's not getting a chance to crack the three position, especially since we're going three guards, so I told him I'd go ahead and fake an injury or say something's wrong with me so you can start," a smiling Arenas said in the locker room.

When asked about the health of his knee, Arenas said, "I'm fine," and indicated he would play on Thursday in the Wizards' final home preseason game against Milwaukee.

Tough to admit what this is with so much going well, but what you make of it is Gil still doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and if this is true, he will wants to override his coach.

I would have been happier thinking or knowing that Flip was just sitting Gil because he wanted to try Nick. The way this reads, if I was Flip I would be pissed. I mean, on one side it is honorable that he did that. A team player. On the other side, it is circumventing the coach. Not cool.

If I was Flip I would trump Gil. I would say. GIl is just being Gil. I decided the start Nick. I know Gil was ok to go. Its a decision we made to give another line up a look in preseason.

If this is true, does Gil really not get how this is wrong ? :o

It is not his decision who starts. If he felt this good will, he should have talked to Flip.

I think Gil's just messing with reporters. Could mean he's happy with the team and he's happy for Nick.

We don't even know that Flip wasn't in on this with the finer points just being lost in translation.

I'm with CCJ, in that it sounds more like a joke to me. Though it's still frustrating, because you know those comments are going to be picked apart by everybody, even if they were completely in jest.

let's say he was serious

wouldn't getting his teammate some reps and confidence,
esp in the case of this particular teammate, wouldn't that
be a good thing? It's a pre-season game. I was disappointed
to not see him play and was yelling his name (loud enough
for him to hear from where I was sitting) but we won
which might or might not be important. The guy he
says he wanted to get minutes got them and produced.
And he's fine which was what I said all along.

a douche like Wilbon might try to make something
of this but I'm moving on.

BTW - I think it actually is somewhat important
that we won the game. ATL has owned us for
2 years. And given our youth and all the new
faces, playing well bodes well.

Agreed that it's not that big of a deal. I think we're all prone to over-analyze things a bit on both sides of the coin. Cynics will believe this is symptomatic of Gil being a poor teammate. Supporters are bound to see this as a sign that Gil is back to his old jovial ways. I think the best explanation is not this is a case of Gil being Gil but of a veteran being a veteran.

I remember Flip saying last year that he likes to give his veterans a game off in the preseason and that it's completely up to them when or if to take it. With only 3 vets on the team this year, I'm sure he saw no need to make such a declaration publicly this year.
