Josh Howard close to returning?

Post#1 » by dobrojim » Wed Oct 13, 2010 5:19 pm

I got the distinct impression from Consor on the radio coming
home last night that Josh may not be that far from being
ready to play. I had initially thought that an optimistic date
might be xmas. Consor made it sound like it could be sooner.

Assuming his level of play approaches what it used to,
this makes me pretty giddy at our playoff prospects

Let him take his time recovering, I don't want to see his career ruined because of our incompetent medical staff.

I get the sense that he could be ready to play by the season opener if it was absolutely necessary. It sounds like Flip and EG want to be cautious with him though. He'll probably be back by December.

I just get excited by the prospect of a former
allstar and the player I consider to be the best
among those involved in 'the big trade' to be
potentially ready to help us for a major portion
of the season at the position that on paper
at the particular time, appears to be our weakest.

Plus, he's got a lot of reasons to be motivated. I'm also looking forward to seeing him play.

We have 14 games in the month of November. If he can start opening day, is it really necessary for him to miss the entire month? I hope he returns Mid November, around Nov 17 when we have a game against the Celtics.

From the Examiner Wiz beat reporter today.
Howard ran practice drills before Washington battled Atlanta, and while I haven't seen him scrimmage yet, Josh looks like he is coming along fine. I'm not sure if he would scrimmage this Saturday or not, either, but I'd say Howard will be ready to play sometime in November, if not on opening day.

Good news IF Howard can play at a high-level when he returns.

I'm pretty sure that Josh's contract amount is tied to how many games he plays, so it is no surprise that greedy Ernie/Ted would like to hold him out. Oh, and who is going to fine them for that?

I feel bad for the folks who put you on ignore. They're missing out on some amazing insights.

Wait, greedy? Didn't Ernie/Ted sign him to a $3M contract when he was only otherwise being offered the veterans minimum?

Silliness.

So what is the chance we see Howard take the court at some point in the pre season ?

As much as I would like to see he get some PT, I don't know.

Seems like we have so many other player to try out. We know we are keeping Howard.

Unless he's on multiple growth hormones it'll still be a few weeks

Can't wait to have J. Ho back. He should add some more offensive firepower and pretty good defense.

"Mostly I'm just watching out for setback," said, Howard, who admitted that he had a setback about two weeks ago that forced him to sit out a few days. "Strained it a little bit. Other than that, I got right back into the swing of things."

The Wizards have always targeted December as a realistic return date for Howard and the team won't force him back before it's time. Coach Flip Saunders said he plans on increasing Howard's workload, with how his body feels. "He's looked extremely good and very quick. He's progressing," Coach Flip Saunders said. "We'll continue to facilitate his development as far as how hard he works, with contact."

Howard knows his body, and that it is not in his best interest to rush back prematurely -- even with his incentive-laden contract which is centered around games played and minutes played. He was encouraged by his visit with Dr. Altcheck. "I'm pretty much where I need to be," Howard said. "Everything is on track. Still don't have a set date, but as far as everything looking, it's looking good. Before this trip, I was probably doing 50 percent of practice, now I can do 75, 90, in that area."
