I recently read about a new DLeague rule that will allow DLeague teams first rights to 2 players cut from their parent team’s training camp roster. If I understand this rule correctly, the Jazz could cut hypothetically cut Sundiata Gaines and Othyus Jeffers, then the Flash could sign these players for the season. (example) If the Jazz pulled a midseason trade (for cap relief or whatever), or heaven forbid had some major injuries, the Jazz would need to fill a roster spot, and would have players waiting and ready.
With this rule in place, the Jazz could certainly stash a couple of players on the Flash without having to sign them to a contract and roster spot. Only risk is that other NBA teams can poach these players if they like them.
If I’m correct, the Jazz roster currently stands at 17 players. Theoretically (though unlikely), the Jazz could keep 15 players on their roster, then the flash could sign the remaining 2 players. More likely, the Jazz keep 13 or 14 players on roster (with Memo out maybe 14?), then stash 2 players on the flash. This would mean they only need to really cut ties with 1 or 2 players entirely.
Has any 1 player distanced himself from the rest as NOT playing at an NBA level?
Can any of the non-guaranteed players help the Jazz increase their win total this year? (not sure any can)
Can any of the non-guaranteed players help the Jazz increase their win total in the future? (not sure Jeffers ceiling is much higher than where he’s at)

Gaines has shown enough that he might get picked by a team in need of PG help.
Jeffers direction to improve is by shooting 1000 jumpers a day for a couple of years. If Jeffers could shoot 35% from 3 he would have a spot in the league.

That rule only goes for players whose rights don't already belong to a D-League team. So if the Jazz release Gaines he would go back to the Idaho Stampede, and O would go back to the Iowa Energy.

D-Nic belongs to the Iowa Energy as well. They just expanded D-League rights to include players who have been with your team in the past two seasons instead of just one.

Bummer. I was hoping we could float a fourth point guard there.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Ryan Thompson would likely end up with the Flash. I think he will get cut before Othyus. Does this rule trump territorial picks?
