DWill out with strained calf

#Utah_Jazz's Deron Williams (strained right calf) will not practice today and is out for Saturday's game vs. #Clippers.

Probably just precautionary...Hopefully.

No problem (if it's not serious)... time to see what Watson put on the table

Yeah, he seemed fine after last nights game, he was laughing on the bench, I am sure the Jazz just want him to have a few days off before the long haul.

Jazz have to make decisions between Watson, Gaines and Price, so I view as an extended try out for those guys.

I think he's gone as well. Watson hasn't been great but I just can't see how we even keep him unless price is traded for a future pick.

Watson is the back up PG, make no mistake. It's between Gaines and Price right now, and I think Gaines has shown some improvement from last year which may be enough to give him the nod over Price who has reached his potential.

I thought Price was under contract 2-3 year $3-$4 million, something like that? Would they waive a guy they have under contract?

Kind of off topic, but not new-thread worthy: I like to glorify any list that has Deron Williams rated higher than Chris Paul. Top 25 players list -by Eddie Johnson from hoopshype. Although, some of the selections are questionable...Amare Stoudemire #6, and higher than Carmelo?

"9. Deron Williams (9)

The best all-around point guard in the NBA. I wonder what his numbers would look like if he was not in the Jazz offensive system. Anyway, the Jazz system is excellent and Williams still has All-NBA numbers regardless. That is why he has ascended to the top among point guards.

What I like is that he rated D-Will above Steve Nash after giving him the highest accolades on the list. I also think he is suggesting Williams' numbers would be even higher if he had free reign outside of Sloan's systematic offense. But, the system still allows Deron to shine because it goes through him, and he's one of the smartest basketball players I've seen in a long time who can run a complicated system like this.

If I recall, that's about right, and this is the last season of said contract. So, we'd still pay him if we waive him -- one of many reasons to keep Price and wave goodbye to Sundiata.

I remember reading a couple weeks ago on Jazz360, some guy saying Gaines had "Deron potential," and that it was insane we would even consider giving EW or RP playing time over him. Personally, he's never shown me anything, outside of that one legendary (in Jazz, not NBA history) moment.

Price isn't going anywhere. He's a Utah guy. We just signed Watson, so I'm sure we'll let Gaines go.

I hope the strained calf is the reason he looks uninterested and taking bad shots, while throwing some horrible passes.

Why not keep both and move RP to SG. Lineup would be something to the effect of:

Dwill, EW, Gaines
Raja, CJ, RP
AK, Hayward
Sap, Evans
Jefferson, Okur, Elson, Fes

That gives us 14 on the roster. Im not necessarily saying I like this. But RP isnt a good PG anyways. Gaines is better than RP and I beleive we can still stash Gaines in the D League.

Gaines has a higher ceiling than Price. Unfortunately he will probably be let go and come into his own on another team, and we'll all be upset the Jazz didn't hold onto him.

He doesn't have "Williams potential" though, that's insane

Don't really remember. He probably did. Hopefully he's just experimenting.

I don't see Gaines staying either. And he probably will come into his own on another team but I wont mind, good for him, we don't need him any more.

I choose Price over Gaines for the next year or so

Personally I think both Gaines and Price are pretty close to their respective ceilings right now.

In MHIO the question is if coaching staff prefers Price as an off guard over Jeffers, Thompson and Nichols. If the answer is "yes", then Gaines has a little chance to make opening night; if the answer is "no" then Gaines' already out and Sloan's giving the guy time to showcase his game.
If I had to bet, I'd bet Sundiata is out... I'm pretty sure coaches will choose to keep one of Jeffers/Thompson/Nichols as the 14th Jazzman...
