Wall: Superstar or Star

John Wall is by no doubt, a great player. He was great in college and great in preseason. But will he be a superstar or a star? theres a huge difference. for example , danny granger=star, lebron= superstar. his shooting is HORRIFIC in my eyes. i think he can be a superstar ofcourse, but he can also just be a star. He's not with amazing players of college, hes with scrubs of the nba. lets see what he can do

I think he'll be a superstar. considering his size, his position, his skillset, his athletic ability, he'll be a superstar in my mind. if/when he gets more elevation on his jump shot, he'll be unstoppable. he's got really good form, but he barely get his legs under them when he fixes that, he'll be a perennial all star, without a doubt in my mind.

Granger vs. LeBron, Wall vs. Rose, aww boy, I'm just so tired of all these Star Wars.

Really though there's no reliable way to say for sure; Wall has the talent and from all reports the personality and commitment to be any kind of star in the league. How far he ascends depends on how much he improves from here and, especially considering that he's a point guard, the players and style of play that surround him. Steve Nash wasn't really much worse (if at all) in Dallas than he has been in Pheonix but he was at most a borderline star in Big D and has become a superstar running with guys like Amare in the >seven second system. We can only hope.

I'm gonna say Superstar. The kid has a unique ability to turn on the jets while he's dicing through the lane. He's one of those players that will fight for every bucket ala younger D Wade before he developed his mid range jumper. If he manages to get a consistent perimeter game the NBA better watch out.

One difficulty worth noting is that point guard is ridiculously deep these days, so, many nights, Wall's going to have to be pretty damn good just to keep apace.

It's almost like there's so many "Star" point guards that there's no such thing as a "Star" point guard - you've almost got to be a "Star" to be above average. That's overstating things, but it's not that far off base either. I guess I'd say that even if Wall is a Superstar, he won't have the kind of discrepancy in production that Wade goes against at the much, much 'suckier' 2-guard slot.

Even with that, Wall basically forces a mismatch against all but a handful of guys in the league, so if his court game develops to Deron Williams' level, he would be an outright superstar, yes. it all depends on his mastery of halfcourt execution.

the odd thing about john to me is, i still think he can grow an inch or two; and at that point, what should he be? with that speed and athleticism at 6-6, should he stay at point guard? the kid is a really intriguing prospect for a number of reasons.

I think his feel of the game and determination to 'stay hungry and humble'
argue for the probability of superstar considering how good he is RIGHT NOW
at age 20 before he's actually played a real NBA game,

-- He has the traits to be a Super-Star.

-- He knows how to carry himself well ala Durant and Wade.

-- He's already putting up great Stats as a Rook, ala Deron and Chris.

If he can work on his TOs and outside shot over the next few Years, he'd basically be the best PG in the League.

He should attend some Summers with Nash and other elite PGs over time to work on those skills and refine things.

i'm probably the only one but i'd much rather him pan out to be Dwayne Wade then Chris Paul. I'd be much happier with a 30/7 statline then a 20/13.

So far, I've seen nothing to indicate that he can't be a superstar. He has superstar athleticism; he has a superstar's mindset and work ethic; and he we've seen indications that he has a superstar's basketball IQ. He also looks like he's going to be pan out to be an excellent defender

The only real question is his jumper. I'm sure Wall will work at it constantly, but some people never become good shooters no matter how much they work at it. If he becomes a knock-down shooter, he'll be completely unguardable.

Jason Kidd never developed a reliable jumper and I would argue he's one of the NBA's fifty greatest players. His jumper improved enough to keep defenses honest and that's all you need.

kidd has always had bad shooting mechanics though. that's not the case with wall.

He shot 42.5% from 3 last year. Id say that's pretty darn reliable.

Wall has the it factor, clearly superstar potential. He's only a rook, but I have no doubt that by the time this upcoming season is over, he'll have established himself as a star in this league.

Knicks fan here, just checking out your game thread before the game. Anyways saw this thread and decided to read. I think you guys are trying to curb your enthusiasm. This guy may be a star his rookie season at worse, but he is going to be a superstar, he may be a super star this season. The kid is that good imo. You guys got a nice corner stone to build around for many many years to come.
