SACRAMENTO, CA, October 15, 2010 -- The Sacramento Kings today announced that they waived forward-center Connor Atchley, guard Joe Crawford and forward Marcus Landry from their training camp roster.
The Kings roster now stands at 14.

I'd say Marcus Landry getting waived is a bit of a shocker. I really thought he was going to make it. Not only did he start his first game, but he played well, and Westphal had great things to say about him. But I guess him barely getting time since then had to be a bit of a heads up. If it weren't for positional needs, I'd much, much prefer him over Head. I'd prefer him to Wright regardless. So if I'm not mistaken then, the roster is currently:

Udrih\Jeter\Head
Evans\Garcia\Wright
Greene\Casspi
Landry\Thompson\Jackson
Cousins\Dalembert\Whiteside

Landry/Cousins starting just doesn't fit for me. Ugh, we'll see.

I was figuring it would be Landry/Dalembert until Dally got hurt

Yeah, I agree with Mitch, Landry getting cut is a bit shocking to me. I figured he was a lock since he played decent in the one game and then kind of didn't play anymore. I thought he had that 15th spot sewn up.

Yeah, I'd like to see Landry and Casspi coming off the bench. That is if Greene and Thompson play well as starters.

I don't prefer it either, but it seems to be at least how things are going to start out.

Yeah it was pretty surprising that the Kings waived Marcus Landry. At the beginning of camp, Landry had a solid grasp of making the team. He did everything what he was asked to do: make threes and defend.

Weird move by the Kings.

Don't think we'll see Head at PG very often, and Wright played SF more than SG with the Raptors.

I don't think we'll see either playing much at all barring injury.

I think both JETER & HEAD are better anyways & will be great assetts to our team so I am happy
I do see LANDRY as a guy who could have fit however we have a lot of guards & wing players that can fill the guard spots so I can understand why M.LANDRY didnt make it !

I feel like they are holding the #15 spot for potential cuts by other teams.

It would also not surprise me at all that they know Daly and maybe one of the other guys start the season on the bench/IR and that will open an active spot so they told Marcus to just hang loose for a bit until the dust settles.

Bringing back Marcus just wouldn't make sense, unless Head/Wright are cut/injured. If anything, we are waiting to bring in another big man or back up PG in case Jeter crashes and burns like Bobby Brown.

After reading the blog in the Bee it makes more sense now. This gives the Kings the option of picking up somebody else that might be cut and/or picking up an extra player via trade. Probably the smarter way to go since a nice young prospect might become available in the next week or two. Wonder if the Pacers are thinking of cutting Brandon Rush? I'd love for the Kings to pick him up if they can't trade him. If they even want to of course.

Rush is under contract for another year until next year which is a team option. Unless the Pacers buyout Rush (which is highly unlikely). Rush is meh but not bad.

I can't remember who it was, but someone who is a SG was waived last week and I rember thinking that he would be a nice pick up for cheap - especially if he was pissed off and looking to prove the team stupid for releasing him.

I just can't place who it was.

I don't know... Is there like a no-family policy on this team or something? He seemed pretty solid to me.

I like what he brought to the table, I think it was just a simple issue of having too many players capable of playing the position. At SF they already have Casspi and Greene, with Garcia and Wright also capable of swinging over to the position. All of those guys have guaranteed contracts for the year, so it was going to be tough. If Petrie didn't mind carrying the max of 15 it might have improved his chances, but he seems to want to leave a roster spot or two open in case of trade or another player getting released. So between those two factors Landry was going to have a tough time making the final roster.

I think they decided to release Landry early as a courtesy so that he could try and explore other opportunities. I also think he opened enough eyes within the Kings org to be on a short list of guys they would like to bring back when they decide they do have an open roster spot at the position.
