The San Jose Sharks have locked up Joe Thornton, signing the team captain to a $21 million, three-year contract extension.
''Joe stepped up and made a tremendous commitment to this franchise, his teammates and the fans in San Jose,'' general manager Doug Wilson said in a press release. ''We are very pleased that we now have another key piece of this team's core under contract for the next four seasons.''
Thornton took a pretty big pay cut to help keep the Sharks competitive and to help them add pieces. He might be a choke artist in the playoffs but this deal is really going to help the Sharks long term. I think this says a lot about Thornton too, it seems like he really wants to win.
Thoughts??
