Good thing Larry Bird took the leap and signed Rolle...

Considering O'Brien hasn't played him in more than 7 minutes in any preseason game yet. They were so adamant about retaining him and considering the fact that there was no clear-cut standout big aside from Hibbert, I figured Rolle would get more quality minutes considering the recent signing and the guaranteed (I think) contract.

It's a rookie contract for a 2nd round draft pick. It's not about the immediate impact.

It's silly to even suggest Rolle wasn't worth signing at this point. He has a small contract, and who are you going to give him minutes over? We most likely haven't decided who's starting at the 4, and Hibbert still needs his minutes to develop. If we had a 35 year-old center and a solid 4 I would be worried about the lack of minutes. We have neither.

^^^ I just mean it seems like this is a prime opportunity to allow him to get used to the pro game and all that, instead of throwing him in and him getting his first real minutes playing at the 4, which might just be the most stacked position in the NBA across the league. I'd hate for his first real taste of the NBA to come when he's facing up one-on-one against someone like Duncan, Dirk, Garnett or Bosh.

And I do definitely think he was worth signing, don't get me wrong. I would just like to see him get used more during the preseason, especially with a fairly wide open 4 spot.

my preference would have been to convince him to sign in Europe for a year or two. AD did that and it really helped him. too late now. we'll have to find a way to get to 15 even if we have to pay someone to take D Jones.

It's also a time to develop Hans & McBob. Rolle is down on the pecking order.

Of course it was worthwhile in signing him. I've got a sweet new jersey coming!
