OT: Going to Vegas

Post#1 » by AgEnT50 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 4:21 am

I'm FINALLY going to Vegas Oct 28th - Nov 1st. Staying @ MGM. I'm crazy excited for this! Never been...for those of you who have, what are the hot spots to check out?

I don't really think were gonna go to many shows....we're just basically looking at partying/clubbing, gambling and mixing it up with the ladies in between :D

Anyone ever been to Vegas for Halloween before...if so, how was it?!?

Advise...tips

I was just in Vegas in may. It was awesome. The best club I went to was the VooDoo Rooftop Nightclub. Make sure you check out old Las Vegas at night and visit the strip club at the end of the old strip :D

I said the same thing about gambling but I did because you drink for free when you gamble at casinos. But there are bars and clubs that are reasonably priced.

bring a box of condoms

okay seriously though, check out this restaurant called ellis island, it's great. for 6.99 you get a full meal with all the fixings. It's more like a "local" spot if you get my drift.

and slickdeals.net is your friend

oh and I second the suggestion to go to downtown vegas, they have this cool laser/movie show in the open.

I live in Vegas. I would recommend the Playboy Club at the Palms. It is an outside bar/club on the roof of the Palms and it overlooks the whole strip. Tao is also a good club at the Venitian. If you rent a car, avoid driving on the strip, It is a nightmare. Take either Paradise or Industrial. Each road is behind the casinos on each side. Gambling is more expensive on the strip($20 tables). On Freemont Street (Old Vegas) tables are much cheaper. some as low as $2-$3. Have fun.

Oh and Bellagio has a kick ass buffet but it will cost you about $30 pp.

Edit- Yeah my location says Bahrain. That's because I am deployed. I do live in Vegas. Can't wait to get back.

Just got back, myself. I was there mostly for gambling. For my money, the Bellagio, the MGM Grand and the Monte Carlo were the best. Hard Rock and Palm are solid. Avoid Planet Hollywood, their casino is bad and their blackjack tables are all single deck. Amateur stuff.

Have fun.

I was in Vegas for the first time at the end of August. I stayed at the MGM, and also went to the VooDoo lounge someone mentioned earlier in the thread. I went for business, so I didn't get a lot of time to check out all the clubs, but VooDoo was def cool (roof top). I basically popped my head in to most of the casinos for a drink and to check it out. You'll see a lot of mexicans trying to give you cards for prostitutes. They can't talk to you, so just ignore them.

The one crucial tip i can give you.... everything is A LOT farther than it seems. Bring some good walking shoes...

vegas is only a 4 hour drive from me & i go there often so i will give you the grand daddy of all tips...

eats: the peppermill(24 hours) - located across the street from circus cirucus. sams town buffet - location ummmm your going to have to ask a cabby or check the net for directions but i kid you not they have some of the best fried shrimp i have ever had. there is also a cafe in the paris hotel & casino that is really good but the line is almost always long.

gambling : if your a poker player like myself then bally's is awesome. $300 capped tables with $1-$2 blinds. all you have to do is just sit back and wait for big hands and collect free drinks... AWESOME. then there is always the golden nugget. tournaments are daily and always running. i have seen 5 dollar tables for black jack along the strips but i forget where soooo happy hunting.

shows : DAMN EXPENSIVE but worth it if your into that sort of thing.

night life : ummmm it's vegas. you can always find trouble there BUT there is a strip club called sapphire and i HEAR   it's like the amway center of strip clubs. not like i would know about that though.

Listen to the local. I'm a pro poker player so I've also lived there for a bit and have been going there several times per year for a while. I'm a bit biased though, because I enjoy spending most of my time at the nicer hotels out there. Fremont Street, downtown, north Strip, and dingy off-strip places kinda give me the creeps so I'm sort of a snob in that regard. Granted, if you want to find the cheapest games and best food values, that's where you'll need to go. I just happen to spend most of my time at places like Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, Aria, Caesar's, MGM, Mirage, Mandalay, Paris etc.

I'll recommend XS at Encore (The Wynn) as a must-see club but keep in mind that it's one of the most popular in town so be prepared to either wait in a tremendous line to get in or shell out a ton of money for a table. It might be worth it though.....I can safely say it's the best club I've been to and I live in South Beach. Tao (Venetian) and Tryst (Wynn) are two other good mega clubs to check out if that's your thing.

I see you'll be in town on October 29 so it's a must that you catch the Magic-Heat game and I highly recommend catching it at one of the sportsbooks. Every casino has one but some are way better than others. The Bellagio and Wynn have the nicest, most comfortable setups that I've experienced but the sportsbook/lounge at The Palazzo looks extremely nice as well (though I haven't caught a game there yet). The nice thing about sportsbooks is that drinks are free in there just like if you're playing a table game. When the waitress comes around, just ask her for whatever you like and present her with a nice tip upfront to make sure she keeps coming around--don't be afraid to ask for Johnny Black or Grey Goose and Redbull at the nicest casinos like Bellagio and The Wynn. There's a chance she'll ask if you're betting, in which case you might need to show her a bet ticket. In this case, just grab one of the many used tickets left behind by people who lost their bets. There's also a chance she'll ask you for a drink ticket. In this case, you'll need to actually place a sports bet and ask for some free drink tickets. No biggie...put down a small bet...hedge it if you're not the gambling type...and get trashed while watching the Magic bounce the Heat in their home opener.

Be prepared to deal with the fact that everyone in Vegas will be rooting for the Heat. I watched the 2009 Playoffs out there and it was painful hearing all the bandwagon Cleveland fans root against Orlando...and then all the folks in from LA rooting for the Lakers in the Finals.

I'd recommend hitting up a brunch buffet but honestly you're gonna wake up too late and be too hungover to take advantage of that....so try to hit up one of the midday pool parties if the weather permits. Your hotel runs a good one called Wet Republic so be sure to check it out.
