Not really a big deal, more of an interesting development.

Making a move to go after his own team outright?

There's some rumbling about him becoming owner of the Pistons. Not sure of the % ownership.

Hate to see him go, but that's the next logical move.

Nooooo, why? :(

I always want to see Magic associated or connected to the franchise one way or another. NOT to some other team.

Why would he rather own a part of another team / Pistons? (unless he was derailing them for years to come) lol.

Edit: Never mind, thought about it. He wont be the first.

Larry Bird - Home state Indiana = Works with Pacers
Michale Jordan - North Carolina = Owns majority of Bobcats.
Magic Johnson - Michigan boy = Detroit.

Well if you want to have some sort of 'control' of the franchise (and lets be honest, Jerry drives the bus) it makes sense. Dr. Buss isn't going anywhere any time soon.

I dont think Magic is that rich even if Dr. Buss decides to sell, I would think that other minority owner guy would easily outbid Magic, the owner of the kings/staple center

Magic is worth about $500 million. He's fairly rich and could definitely get in a great bid on the Lakers, not that Buss would ever sell to anyone outside the family.

...

So yeah, it looks like Magic might be going the ownership route, which kind of sucks because I'd hoped he'd always be with the Lakers.

the lakers are gonna stay in the buss family and for magic to become a majority owner of a nba team, this is what he has to do. i hope he can get majority ownership in the pistons if that's what he's aiming for.

as for anschutz entertainment group (aeg), owners of staples, i just got back from some concerts at the newer venue they purchased in north denver, 1st bank center. it's a small arena that was originally made for a minor league hockey team and aeg bought it when the arena wasn't turning a profit and made it into a venue for concerts. killer place to see a show...............great view of the stage from every seat/floor and great sound.

This is sort of like watching your favorite couple break up. Hopefully they can still be friends.

Magic has talked about joining in to purchase the Pistons and having more of a say in the front office. Mike Ilitch is a great owner and sports fan, but he's not a big basketball guy. Bringing in Magic to run the team is a good move. Magic and Dumars rebuilding the Pistons would be great for the organization and the city of Detroit. Ilitch has big plans for the team. If Magic wants to get involved, he'd have to share his stock in the Lakers, which he apparently did today.

I have a friend that was in LA for a charity event with Magic a few weeks back and she actually was able to speak with him for a good 20 minutes or so. It's all hearsay, but aside from being a super cool guy, he made $75M last week.

Last. Week.

I would miss him calling up Vlade Radmanovic to sign for the Lakers.

Hate to see Magic leave but i'll also support him trying to own some/all of his home team. No matter what though he'll always be a Laker. Like mentioned earlier, Buss isn't going anywhere soon and the majority ownership is staying in the family.

Maybe some day there will be a new owner for the Lakers. This guy is a billionair and it is always good to have some of them on your side. Buss and family one day might want to sell and make a nice profit and who knows. He looks young. Magic will alway be a Laker. I would give him championship rings even without him being a minor owner.

He knows Buss will never sell, I just worry when his kids get the team, look what is happening to the stupid Dodgers organization, don't get me wrong when I say stupid, I love the Dodgers but the ownership is affecting, the execs, the execs are affecting management and management is affecting the players. I pray the Lakers never have any issues with ownership down the line

. Good Luck Magic, you are still the greatest all time Laker! (for now).
